Kelso Abbey
Built in 1128 and the years following, Kelso Abbey was one of the finest examples of Romanesque architecture.
Finally finished, it was dedicated to the Blessed Virgin and St John in 1243. It was soon one of the largest and richest in Scotland, having a superb library in medieval times.

Doorstep History Programme 46 - August 2019
This programme looks at the history of Monument Road Baths in Ladywood and the development of the replacement, Ladywood Leisure Centre. The original baths dates back to 1883 and was rebuilt at the outbreak of WWII. The much loved baths was closed in 1992, demolished in 1994 and now the third baths, on the same site, is due to open exactly 25 years since the demolition of the previous premises.
The story of the baths is told in Ladywood History Group's latest publication, 'In At The Deep End'. email info@tntnews.co.uk for details. The 32-page A5 book is due to be launched during Birmingham Heritage Week at Spring Hill Library at 2.30pm Friday 13 September 2019. Hope to see you there!

Old Photographs Jedburgh Scotland
Tour Scotland wee video of old photographs of Jedburgh a town and former royal burgh in the Scottish Borders and former county town of Roxburghshire. The town is located on the Jed Water, a tributary of the River Teviot. It is 10 miles from the border with England, and is dominated by the substantial ruins of Jedburgh Abbey. Other notable buildings in the town include Mary, Queen of Scots' House, Jedburgh Castle Jail, now a museum, and the Carnegie library. The deeply religious Scottish king Malcolm IV died at Jedburgh in 1165, aged 24. His death is thought to have been caused by excessive fasting. The expression Jeddart justice or Jethart Justice, in which a man was hanged first, and tried afterwards, seems to have arisen from one case of summary execution of a gang of villains. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.

British scientists have determined that a high aluminum content in the body of bees raises the bees. Anyway, they found a high aluminum contamination in bee pupae. Such contamination leads to Alzheimer's disease in humans.
The decline in the global bee population is apparently triggered by the high contamination of aluminum, reported the public library of science the international online magazine (PLOS one). Biologists go out anyway by Keele University and the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom and examine this approach. High contamination of aluminium at least in humans leads to Alzheimer's disease.
Other factors play a role such as for example the lack of flowers or attacks in the demise of the bee population by parasites. Previous studies were able to demonstrate that bees consume also nectar which has aluminium remains in itself. They found that the metal content in bee pupae ppm ranges from 13 to 193. An aluminium content of about three ppm raises Alzheimer's disease in humans.
But in April, EU scientists found that pesticides for the mass death of bees should be responsible. Severe impact on a range of organisms that are essential for the eco-system according to the EU scientists have the widespread use of Neonicotinoid insecticides.
