A vibrant new community

The county town of Bedford is set in a rich rural landscape amid areas of outstanding natural beauty. The town's history has been influenced by its position on the River Great Ouse, making it an important market town and a centre for English lace-making since the middle ages. Over the centuries successive influxes of workers from abroad have given modern day Bedford an ethnically and linguistically diverse population, including a thriving Italian community, whose descendants arrived to make bricks in the area in the 1950's.
The vibrant town centre includes the Harper and Howard Shopping Centres, high quality shops, many unique independent retailers, along with major retailers and department stores, complemented by a wealth of cultural and entertainment venues.
Rail travel is convenient with Bedford's two railway stations offering fast and frequent main line rail services to London King's Cross/St Pancras (40 minutes).
Road travel links in all directions are excellent. Bedford is located between the M1 and A1(M), with the London Orbital M25 to the south, and the A14 to the north linking to the M6 and M11. The new western by-pass, beside which Biddenham Vale is located, links the A428 at Bromham to the A421 at Kempston, with its popular out-of-town shopping centre at Kempston Interchange Retail Park.
Biddenham Vale's local centre is planned to include a community hall, food and other retail outlets, a crèche, multi-faith ecumenical hall, public library, recycling facilities, a public house, gymnasium and office/commercial premises, in addition to the existing medical centre and Great Denham Primary School, which opened for the Autumn 2012 term.
In the fullness of time, residents will be able to enjoy a 200-acre Country Park beside the River Great Ouse including open space areas, equipped play areas, playing fields, an all weather multi-use sports pitch, youth facilities and a new pavilion with changing rooms. New cycle ways are being created, linking to the national cycle way network and a park and ride facility. Road links are being much improved with the opening of the new Bedford Western bypass.
All the homes at Biddenham Vale will be designed and built to Eco Homes 'Very Good' standards, to increase energy efficiency and reduce water consumption. All homes will be provided with a green tariff electricity provider.

Fashion with a Twist at The Howard Centre
Crowds at The Howard Centre were entertained by fashion showcases and flashmob-style routines on Saturday, 30th September. The dance-infused fashion extravaganza showcased the very latest Autumn/Winter trends from the centres’ favourite fashion brands including M&S, Topshop, Next, New Look, Fat Face, Dorothy Perkins and Burtons.
Well deserved credit goes to the dancers and members from Living the Dream who got the crowds cheering and tapping their feet. A group of 20 dancers ranged between ages 9 to 28 presented the wide variety of styles and collections available at the centre’s stores this season.
Living the Dream, is also a professional dance company, do flashmobs and perform at events and have worked with Virgin, Vodafone and British Airways. The charity, the Dream Foundation supports disadvantaged young people to have access to the arts. Living the Dream was set up by Zoe Jackson in 2006 at the age of 16 and in 2015 she was awarded an MBE from Her Majesty the Queen for her services to young people in the performing arts.

Lee Valley White Water Centre, Hertfordshire, UK - Visit Britain - Unravel Travel TV
Just outside of London in Hertfordshire is the Lee Valley White Water Centre. This was the venue for canoeing events at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Although this was an Olympic Venue, enthusiasts of all abilities can participate in activities such as group white water rafting. Modelled on slalom skiing, the first canoe slalom events were included at the 1992 Olympics, held in Barcelona. The Olympic Standard Competition course requires 13,000 litres of water to be pumped every second. This is enough to fill a 25 metre swimming pool in 30 seconds. This creates fast and thrilling rapids, perfect conditions to challenge the competitors at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games
