Kendal Castle, Kendal, Cumbria, UK - 5th September, 2012
Kendal Castle is situated on a mound-like hill, known as a drumlin, to the east of the town of Kendal, Cumbria, in northern England. The castle was probably built in the late 12th century as the home of the Lancaster family who were Barons of Kendal. The best known family associated with the castle was the Parr family; including Queen Catherine Parr, the sixth wife of King Henry VIII of England. Her family had lived at Kendal since her ancestor Sir William Parr married the heiress of Kendal, Elizabeth Ros, during the reign of Edward III of England. By the time Catherine Parr was born, the family had long deserted the castle which was already falling into disrepair. Catherine's father preferred to live in the centre of court in London. Sir Thomas's father seems to be the last of the Parrs to have lived at Kendal Castle. The building has been a ruin since Tudor times but imposing stonework remains are still present.
This video features views of the castle from the top of the drumlin, as well as extensive views over the town of Kendal and the surrounding Cumbrian countryside and Lake District National Park.
Kendal, Cumbria, UK - 5th September, 2012
Kendal is a market town and civil parish within the South Lakeland District of Cumbria, England. It is 50 miles (80 km) south of Carlisle, on the River Kent, and has a total resident population of 27,505, making it the third largest settlement in Cumbria, behind Carlisle and Barrow in Furness.
Historically a part of Westmorland, Kendal today is known largely as a centre for tourism, as the home of Kendal mint cake, and as a producer of pipe tobacco and tobacco snuff. Its buildings, mostly constructed with the local grey limestone, have earned it the nickname the Auld Grey Town.
This video features views around the Cumbrian town of Kendal, including Blind Beck, the River Kent, Abbot Hall Bowling Club, Kendal Parish Church, Kirkbarrow Lane, the town centre shops and buildings, Nether Bridge, Kendal Castle and views over Kendal from the drumlin upon which sits Kendal Castle.

Kendal Parish Church, Kendal, Cumbria, UK - 5th September, 2012
Kendal Parish Church, dedicated to the Holy Trinity, is a Grade I Listed Parish Church of the Church of England in Kendal, Cumbria, England.
Visitors to the church are often struck by its size and the lightness of the interior. This lightness is due to the unusual construction of five aisles, separated by columns and allowing generous window area.
The central aisle is 800 years old and the other aisles have been added over the centuries so that, in its heyday, a congregation of 1100 was regularly accommodated.
This video features footage both outside and inside the Church building, and highlights the architecture, statues, clock, church tower, archways, stained glass windows, pews, pillars, organ, and flags.

Kendal Castle
Kendal Castle, Cumbria, is one of my favourite places to visit. A castle built on a drumlin with great views of Kendal, the Kent Valley and the Lake District. The castle is small enough to feel quite human in scale and is easily accessed.
Drumlins are quite distinctive hills created by receding glaciers at the end of the ice age. So... a castle on a drumlin... couldn't be more romantic and picturesque!! I fell for it at first sight and try to visit fairly often to walk, breathe in the fresh air and admire the views.
I took my daughter for a first visit. We took lots of photos and shot lots of film. (What did I do before the iPhone?) It was enough to make this film which is part history, part geography and also the fun we had on Castle Hill.
Please enjoy this film as a brief history of Kendal Castle told with great affection for the place. Then get your self up to Kendal and go for the walk!

Lancaster Castle|Kendal Castle[castle adventures]
Hello and welcome back to new castle adventure!
Short history about castles!
Lancaster castle
Intact medieval castle and former prison. Occupying the site of a former Roman fort overlooking a crossing of the River Lune,
a wooden Saxon fort was demolished in order to make way for this Norman castle, built around 1088 by Roger de Poitou. In 1322, and again in 1389,invading Scots attacked and burned Lancaster, damaging but not taking the castle.
The castle did not see military action again until the English Civil War when it changed hands several times before being slighted.
Parts of the castle used for the gaol and courts were spared.Still used as a Crown Court.
Kendal castle
Ruins of an early 13th century castle.Built around 1200 as the home of the barons of Kendal, the castle later became home to Parr family.
Although the Parrs occupied Kendal for four centuries, the family had long since deserted the castle by the time Catherine Parr, the sixth and final queen of Henry VIII,was born.
The building was already a ruin in Tudor times, however some imposing stonework still remains.
