Susan Maycock, Charles Sullivan: Building Old Cambridge | Talks at Google
Cambridge, Massachusetts started as a small village on the Charles River. How did this small settlement surrounded by mud flats, with a tiny college and few resources, become an industrial powerhouse and the home of two major international universities, and now a major center for software and biotechnology? Talking at Google's Kendall Square office, with rare maps and views from their book Building Old Cambridge, Susan Maycock and Charles Sullivan of the Cambridge Historical Commission tell the story of the original city center and of later developments like Kendall Square.
Creating a College: A Conversation
Becky Quick, co-anchorwoman of “Squawk Box” and “On the Money,” moderates a conversation on creating a college between Stephen A. Schwarzman and MIT President L. Rafael Reif at the celebration of the MIT Stephen A. Schwarzman College of Computing. This historic three-day event provided a thoughtful, wide-ranging exploration of the ideas behind the founding of the MIT Schwarzman College of Computing and the frontiers it intends to reach.
The MIT Schwarzman College of Computing, made possible by a $350 million foundational gift from the chairman, CEO, and co-founder of Blackstone, marks the single largest investment in computing and AI by an American academic institution, and it will help position the United States to lead the world in preparing for the rapid evolution of computing and AI.
In fields far beyond engineering and science — from political science and urban studies to anthropology and linguistics — some of today’s most exciting new research is fueled by advanced computational capabilities. The MIT Schwarzman College of Computing will create the next generation of highly trained computational thinkers and doers who can offer the world the cultural, ethical, and historical consciousness to use technology for the common good. Bart Van den Bossche (17 April 1964 -- 6 January 2013) was a Flemish singer, actor and radio/TV presenter.-- Born 17 April 1964
Oostende, Belgium
Died 6 January 2013 (aged 48)
Ostend became a transit harbour to England in 1846 when the first ferry sailed to Dover. Very important for the image of the town was the attention it started to receive from the Belgian kings Leopold I and Leopold II. Both liked to spend their holidays in Ostend. Important monuments and villas were built to please the Royal Family, including the Hippodrome Wellington horse racing track and the Royal Galleries. The rest of aristocratic Belgium followed and soon Ostend became known as The Queen of the Belgian sea-side resorts. The comic Le Bal du rat mort about a dreadful invasion of rats, is set in Ostend.
(Belgium , officially the Kingdom of Belgium, is a federal monarchy in Western Europe. It is a founding member of the European Union and hosts the EU's headquarters as well as those of several other major international organisations such as NATO.)
He was born in Oostende, Belgium but grew up in Kortrijk, to which he dedicated his song De stad van mijn jeugd (The town of my youth). His musical style was heavily influenced by Johan Verminnen and Raymond van het Groenewoud, mentioned in his song 'k Heb bijna alles (I have nearly everything).
His first hit Overstuur came out in 1986.
As an actor he took part in the playwright Maria Viers lokaal in 1989/1990.
Bart Van den Bossche died on January 6, 2013 from the effects of a traumatic aortic rupture

TheMBTADog: MBTA Bus 451 Ride - SALEM DEPOT to NORTH BEVERLY via TOZER ROAD [New Flyer 0847]
TheMBTADog's ride on the 451 from Salem to the Super Stop and Shop in North Beverly (near the Beverly / Wenham Line) via Beverly Square / Ellis Square and Cummings Center.
This is the AM outbound variant that travels via Tozer Road when going towards North Beverly.
Vehicle: 2008 New Flyer D40LF 0847
Date: 2016-10-31
A very interesting route, the 451 travels to the highest geographic point served by MBTA buses. Also, this route has to cross the tracks of the Newburyport/Rockport Line six times in one trip!
Unfortunately, service on the 451 has been cut down to weekday peak hour only with no service between 9:30 AM and 2:30 PM. There also used to be Saturday service from Salem Depot to Beverly Square.
The operator of this trip was a Marty Walsh lookalike who did not approve of me taking pictures and making videos at first, but did not mind it as much after realizing that I liked the buses.
I rode on this same vehicle with him as the 450 from Haymarket in Boston to Salem Depot, which turned into the 451 to North Beverly and back to Salem, and later turned again into the 465 to Danvers Square.

Innovation Ecosystems: Leveraging their Power for Organizational Success and Strategic Change
Innovation is a critical component to success in today’s ever-changing business landscape. It flourishes in an environment in which key stakeholders can connect, contribute, and share resources—in other words, when they are part of an innovation ecosystem.
Fiona Murray and Phil Budden discuss:
• The MITii definition of innovation and how that informs your approach to innovation
• Why “the world isn’t flat” for innovation, and why it seems to thrive in certain ecosystems
• Which are the five key stakeholders in the most successful innovation ecosystems
• What this means for business leaders and especially for corporate innovation
• How executives can leverage such ecosystems for innovation in their organization
To find out more about innovation ecosystems, consider exploring these executive education courses taught by Murray and Budden:
• Innovation Ecosystems: A New Approach to Accelerating Corporate Innovation and Entrepreneurship (two-day, in-person course) at
• Corporate Innovation: Strategies for Leveraging Ecosystems (self-paced online course) at
