Freddie the Dog retires
Freddie the Dog has been working hard, running her bookshop in Kenmare, Co. Kerry, but now she wants to retire. Help Freddie retire!
Her bookshop is a lovely period commercial property for sale at €245,000. Presently Noel & Holland Books, it is a secondhand bookshop with one-bedroom apartment above. Floor space of shop approx. 600 sq. feet. In the centre of beautiful Kenmare.
Front area of the shop has a large window looking on to Bridge Street, shelving along both walls, spot lighting and storage heating.
Back area has a vaulted pine ceiling, shelving on three walls, stone wall at far end, spot lighting and storage heating.
The garden is approx. 40 feet long - ideal for an extension.
In the apartment, the living area is open plan - sitting room, dining area and kitchen. The apartment has unusually high ceilings, giving a great feeling of space. Storage heating. The ensuite has a Mira electric shower.
There are no parking restrictions on Bridge Street which is quiet in terms of traffic as it is a cul-de-sac.
Kenmare is a haven of tranquillity, gourmet food, superb accommodation and breathtaking scenery in one of the most natural, unspoilt environments in Europe. Cradled in the heart of Kenmare Bay, the picturesque town of Kenmare is the perfect location from which to discover the South West of Ireland, linking the internationally famous Ring of Kerry with the rugged Ring of Beara.
Founded in 1670, though many generations have passed since then, the unique charm and inherent beauty of the town remains unchanged. The Tourist Board, Bórd Fáilte, officially recognised the historical, cultural and environmental significance of Kenmare by bestowing upon it the title of Kerry's first Heritage Town.
The Ring of Kerry, known all over the world, follows the coastline of the Iveragh peninsula. It is one of the most dramatic scenic drives in the country and makes a most exciting day tour. Along the 175km route are picturesque villages, an abundance of historical landmarks, sandy coves and beaches.
To the north of Kenmare is the Killarney National Park, 10,000 hectares of woodland and magical mountains, with spectacular views of the lakes of Killarney.
The unspoiled Ring of Beara lies to the south of Kenmare. Its rugged beauty is beyond compare, traffic is minimal and it abounds with archeological sites and spectacular views.
Whether it is walking on the mountains, cruising on the bay, horse riding, golfing, fishing, touring or soaking up the best of music you will not be disappointed in Kenmare

Ben Escapes
Ben escapes from the car boot and runs through kenmare naked, with hands tied. Mere skimpy attire isn't enough to deter him from an afternoon jog, this is why we keep him in the car boot.

Chapter 67 : Ballyshannon, Ireland’s Oldest Town
Barry Sweeny is a local artist and was recently elected to Donegal County Council. When we got to Ballyshannon, everybody we met said that Barry was the man to show us around the town and tell us about it's history which dates back further than the pyramids!
And we weren't disappointed. Barry told us about the first settlers, the poet William Allingham and one of the World's most renowned guitarists Rory Gallagher. He also took us to the famine grave where more than 1,000 people are buried And told us about that sad chapter in the town's history. He continued with the Battle of Ballyshannon where the Irish, aided by survivors of the Spanish Armada drove the British Army from the town.
Finalily he told us about the fascinating connection that the town has with Dracula and Frankenstein!!

Expensive Irish Whiskey In A Cocktail? Is He Mad?
By the end of this episode, some of you will want to hang me, and others will have a new-found respect for Irish whiskey. Either way I’m going to talk about how to introduce yet more people to the joys of Irish whiskey in ways that may seem sacrilegious to some, but hopefully will help increase the reach of our lovely brown water.
----
Stories & Sips exists to introduce current and potential whiskey fans in the United States to the real Ireland and its incredible Irish whiskeys, converting bourbon, scotch and rye drinkers to the often under-appreciated gold that is Irish whiskey.
Our vision is for Ireland to become the world leader in whiskey tourism. The Irish whiskey product has reached an enviable level of quality and is earning deserved worldwide attention. The growth in the number of distilleries and visitor centers offers Ireland a unique opportunity to create a whiskey tourism industry that is the envy of whiskey-producing countries around the world. At Stories & Sips, we intend to do our part.
We will do this by connecting fans emotionally to Ireland and its whiskeys. Through stories, in-person whiskey tastings and trips to Ireland, we’ll help whiskey fans engage deeply with the people and product of our country so that they become lifelong fans, consumers and evangelists.

Born and raised in Cobh, 12 dangerous miles from the Midleton Distillery, Barry has called the United States home since 2007. He spent 15 years in the hospitality industry, training originally as a hotel manager in Adare Manor in Limerick before leading the Food & Beverage purchasing for four different luxury cruise ships, taking him to ports all over the world in search of the finest foods and drinks for discerning passengers. Barry has also been part of the management teams in hotel groups in Ireland and Austria.
In 2003, Barry launched an inventory control service for bars restaurants and hotels in Ireland and in 2004 created the first online software tool for bar and restaurant owners to manage their business more effectively. This business expanded to the US in 2007 and was acquired by a California-based entertainment company in 2012, hiring Barry as Chief Marketing Officer.
Today Barry is based in Columbus, Ohio where he lives with his wife.
His favorite whiskey? It would have to be Redbreast 12. His favorite whiskey memory? His 18 year old self ordering and tasting a measure of Midleton Very Rare in 1997 that he had saved up for.
