CANADIANS HAIL KENNEDY ON STATE VISIT: On his first visit to a foreign nation since he assumed the Presidency, Mr. Kennedy arrives in Ottawa on a visit of State. Greeted by Governor-General George P. Vanier and the Prime Minister John Diefenbaker, he attends a state dinner and the next day addresses Parliament. He appeals to Canada to join the Organization of American States, of which Canada is not now a member. Without mentioning Cuba, he called for closer Canada - U.S. unity. He says that while geography has made us neighbors, necessity makes us allies.
QUEEN ATTENDS FLOWER SHOW: Queen Elizabeth opens the Chelsea Flower Show - a highlight of the Spring season. The Queen Mother Princess Margaret and her husband are among the royal party in this preview of Britain's cherished institution.
FUNERAL RITES FOR GARY COOPER
As he would have wished it, the last rites for Gary Cooper are quietly dignified. Never has such an array of stars paid such a heart-felt tribute to the man who was one of the most respected actors in motion pictures.
TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO
Twenty-Five Years Ago they were peeling supposedly worthless bonds from the walls of Chicago's Union League Club as the depression began to fade. Howard Hughes lunched in Chicago and ate dinner in Los Angeles after making an eight-hour flight-phenomenal for those days. Amy Mollison flew from London to Capetown, South Africa, in four days - and this really was sensational. One of the country's most famous Generals, John J. Pershing, cut a cake for a Red Cross fund drive. Max Schmeling knocked out Joe Louis and crowed - but in a return bout the Brown Bomber flattened him in a round. Bold Venture won the Preakness at Baltimore in a photo-finish - a race thriller that proved the horse classic of the year - Twenty-Five Years Ago. . . . . . .
