Kedaresvara Temple, Balligavi
This histrolical place is situated 21 Kms from Shikaripura taluk. This place is also known as Dakshina Kedara. It was the capital of Banawasi rulers in the 12th century. The place is associated with several eminent Veershaiva saints like Allama prabhu, Akka-Mahadevi, Animishayya and Ekantada Ramayya. There are remains of many temples, shrines, mastikals, viragals and nisidigals. Some important temples are Kedareshvara temple made out of soap stone and is a fine specimen of late chalukyan type, Tripurantakeshvara temple resembling the works of belur and halebedu, Prabhudeva temple is a smaller trikutchala structure, etc..
Balligavi complex contains the main kedareswar temple complex , with surrounding temple edifices from Badami Chalukyan era. ( 685-86 AD) They seem to have been moved from neighbouring land in lieu of their crumbling structure. The statues adorning the façade are missing. The Hoysala symbol of Sala slaying tiger is embedded by Hoysalas subsequently 1060 AD, by King Vijayaditya.
Another temple was constructed by the Hoysala king in 1070 AD, which is located in the middle of the village. The temple is called Tripurantaka, which we missed due to paucity of time.
The complex contains a huge collection of inscriptions, statues of Shiva, Vishnu and Teerthankaras. A trimurthi statue with Chinese features gives us some indication that the sculptors were involved in construction of Angor wat temple. This statue is also known as Buddhist goddess Tara Bhagvathi. The legend of the King cobra is also idolized. This may give us an evidence of tantric form of worship was prevalent. The Museum is under construction.

Savira kamba Basadi, Moodbidri
Moodbidri, is a small town located at a distance of 35 km north-east of Mangalore in Dakshina Kannada district. Moodbidri is known as the 'Jain Kashi' of South India and it is an ancient center of Jain learning.
Moodbidri houses 18 Jain temples (basadis). The oldest of them is the 15th century Chandranatha Basadi, which is also known as the 1000 (Thousand) Pillars temple or 'Savira Kambada basadi'.
This is a large granite temple built in 1430 A.D. The main entrance of the thousand pillar temple, which faces the east, opens onto a wonderful 15 meter tall monolithic pillar called Mahastamba in front of the doorway.
The 2.5 meter tall bronze idol of Lord Chandranatha Swami in the sanctum hall is considered to be very sacred. The pillars of this basadi are decorated with carvings typical of Vijayanagara style.
The temple boasts of a valuable collection of jewel-encrusted metallic images of Jain tirthankaras, and superb monolithic columns in the Jain tradition, each with a different carving.
The Jain Mutt near the main temple entrance has a library protecting some beautiful 12th and 13th century palm leaf manuscripts.

Halthi Mallikarjuna Cave Temple Nagamangala Tourism Mandya Tourism Karnataka Tourism | trek
Halthi ( ಹಾಲತಿ ) Mallikarjuna Cave Temple at Nagamangala, Mandya, Karnataka. Mallikarjuna cave temple is part of Nagamangala tourism, Mandya tourism and Karnataka tourism. Halthi is a small village temple is located above the small hill, after a trek one can reach the Mallikarjuna Cave temple.
The Cave temple is locked usually, so best contact the Pooraji of the Temple who resides in the village before climing the hill. The temple Archakar is Mahadeva his contact number is 9731415517. The Shiva Linga in the cave is a naturally formed Linga, Known as Udbhava Moorthy. Halthi has a rich association with two Mythological figures. One is Parashurama and the other being the Pandavas.
The Village gets the unique name of halthi due to the situation of Parasuramas axe slicing the side of the shiva linga, causing milk to flow down the hill into this area. Thus the name Halthi, which in Kannada refers to Haal as Milk. The place where the milk flowed down from the hill. Further ahead the milk flowed into the next village and formed the cream above the milk this village is known as Kendanahallil. Kene in kannada means the cream of the Milk. It is believed that Parasurama resided on this hill for many years in search of the cure for his curse of Killing his Mother. He had visited 100 shiva lingas and was to see 101 in order to be freed from his curse. During his stay here unable to find any direction, he requests a sage for assistance. The sage tells him to go on top of the hill and call out to shiva. When he does so, he finds a voice responding to his call but is unable to locate it. On closer observation he finds a bee entering a small opening in the hill. Being curious Parasurama starts digging open the hill using his axe. This is how the cave came into existence. Initially he is fully energised and digs a big opening and as he proceeds the opening starts decreasing to the bare minimum place required for a person to crawl and go in. finally his axe slices the side of the Linga causing the Milk to flow down the hill. On Darshana of this Linga, Parashurama is liberated of his curse. From here he heads to Kerala, where he throws his axe, which he had used to kill his Mother.
It is also said that the Pandavas resided at Halthi hill during their Vanavasa. The kalyani or pond on the hill next to the temple has water all through the year and the water is said to be clean and portable even during the worst droughts. This is a sacred pond and is quite deep, do not try to go in and do not pollute this water. There is a gopura on the way up the hill.
Inside the Mallikarjuna cave temple there is a statue of Nandi believed to be carved by Parashurama using his nails. The other two Nandi Statue are later additions by the devotees of the temple. Inside the main cave are two other caves. The cave on the left side ijs believed to lead to Melukote Dhanushkoti and people do go by walk through the left side cave towards Melukotes Dhanushkoti..The cave on the right is said to connect to Shivgange and Siddagange . This cave is guarded by a cobra at all times and hence cannot be accessed. If people come inside the temple with wrong intension then a cobra blocks the way to the exit of the main cave, not permitting the person to leave the temple. Also one more thing to keep in mind is, if people do not come to the hill with pure body and mind Such as if they consume non-veg food before coming to the temple, then there is belief that the bees attack them and does not allow them go further towards the temple.
Inside the cave all through the year Water continuous to fall on Shiva linga from the rocks above.
During rainy season the cave gets filled with water and no one can enter the cave. The worship of Shiva linga is stopped during this time. The water inside the cave increases so much that the water forms a waterfall from flowing from inside the cave, through the door and down the hill. During this time only Gangae pooja is done to the water flowing out of the cave in the form of waterfall.
It is also said that after being liberated from the curse Parashurama ate rice mixed in milk near the temple hence the name Halthi .
On the foothills is the Adichuchanagiri matta branch. They have been providing free service to the devotees by offering free food . Accomodation is also available. One needs to inform the matt beforehand or wait for half an hour to get food.

Nuggehalli Lakshmi Narasimha Temple Channarayapatna Tourism Hassan tourism Karnataka tourism
Nuggehalli Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Temple Hassan tourism Channarayapatna Tourism Karnataka tourism Temples of Karnataka.
The Lakshmi Narasimha temple was built in 1246 CE by Bommanna Dandanayaka, a commander in the Hoysala Empire during the rule of King Vira Someshwara. The Hoysala temple is dedicated to Lord Narasimha who is believed to be an avatar of Lord Krishna. The Lakshmi Narasimha temple built in the trikuta (three towers). From outside, the temple actually looks like a ekakuta . The temple is attributed to two well known Hoysala sculptors, Baichoja and Mallitamma. The three shrines contain the images of Venugopala, Keshava and Lakshminarasimha, all avatars of Vishnu. Records say that this place is ancient and was patronized by the Cholas prior to the Hoysala rule. Legend has it that a saint by name Rushbha, performed penance and that the Lord Lakshmi Narasimha appeared before him .
These wonderful temples come under the purview of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and they have classified these as the “Living Temple – Monument”, (which are very few in number) wherein the pooja to the Almighty is being performed uninterrupted from day one. This classification is given to about 50 odd temples in India.
Nuggehalli used to be a flourishing town as seen in the inscription Ch.238. & an ancient place near which the Chola king is said to have constructed a temple of ‘Jayagondeshwara’ & to which the Hoysala king Vishnuvardhana gave some grants in 1121 A.D. A number of temples dedicated to ‘Vishnu & his incarnation’ were constructed during the reign of Hoysala King Vishnuvardhana.
Located a short distance away in Nuggehalli, and built around the same time is the Sadashiva temple. The town was called Vijaya Somanathapura in ancient times and gained importance as an agrahara (place of learning) during the time of Bommanna Dandanayaka. Nuggehalli, (also spelled Nuggihalli), is a town in Hassan district of Karnataka, India. It is located on the Tiptur-Channarayapatna state highway and is about 50 km from Hassan city.
The Lakshmi-Narasimha temple is a trikutachala constructed in 1246 AD during the reign of Hoysala Somesvara. The three sanctums house images of Kesava in the west, Lakshmi Narasimha in north and Venugopala in south. On plan, the temple has three sanctums, the western has sukanasi opening into a navaranga, preceded by a large mukhamandapa, a later pillared mandapa and a mahadvara, all set in a prakara in east-west orientation. The main temple, and the later period mandapa, is built on a raised platform. The bhitti is similar to that of Kesava temple at Somnathpur, elegant sculptures are placed shoulder to shoulder under patra-latha torana.
