Falling Waters: Rainbow Falls near Kerikeri in New Zealand
Wikipedia: Rainbow Falls (Waianiwaniwa) are a single-drop waterfall located on the Kerikeri River near Kerikeri in New Zealand. Unlike most New Zealand waterfalls which are created by the erosion of soft rock, the Rainbow Falls are sited on a hard basalt layer of rock beside softer mudstone. The falls were formed when water eroded the mudstone. The 27 metre waterfall is popular with tourists and is regularly photographed from an adjoining Department of Conservation area. The Rainbow Falls Walk is along a track which takes about 10 minutes to traverse to connect to the Kerikeri River Track which is about 3.5 km long and takes about 1.5 hours to walk. It leads to the Kerikeri Basin where Kerikeri's old buildings are sited, the Stone Store, Mission House and St James Church, plus Rewa's Village and historic Kororipo Pa. The track follows the north bank of the River and passes through kiwi habitat and regenerating native trees such as stands of young kauri and totara

We visited the Rainbow Falls located at Kerikeri, Northland, New Zealand.
Info from taken from the DOC website as below:
This short walk, starting at the Rainbow Falls carpark, is accessible by wheelchair. We did the shortest walk (lol) but there are other longer tracks.
Three stunning viewing platforms are at the top of the Rainbow Falls.
The Te Araroa Trail joins the Kerikeri River Track at this point and carries on down the hill towards the Kerikeri Basin.
You can stroll along the riverbank to the spectacular Rainbow Falls, where the water tumbles into a popular swimming hole surrounded by native bush. The falls are also a popular destination for kayakers to explore.
There are parking and picnicking areas at the end of Rainbow Falls Road.
10,000 Steps Northland: This track equates to about 533 steps.
Getting there
From Kerikeri township, head north-east to the Heritage Bypass, then turn left into Waipapa Road. Rainbow Falls Road is on the left off Waipapa Road. Access to the Rainbow Falls is from the parking area at the end of Rainbow Falls Road or from the Kerikeri River Track itself.
Nature and conservation
You may hear tui call, and see fantails flitting about while you walk.
Puriri, totara, karaka, and manuka shelter the path to the viewing platforms.
History and culture
The third platform is at the head of an historic weir that supplied the first electrical power to the early Kerikeri township. Remnants of the Kerikeri hydro-electric station and weir are still visible and an information panel is situated at the rest area.
Know before you go
There are also parking and picnic facilities at the end of the Rainbow Falls Road.
Dogs are not permitted on the walking tracks in the Kerikeri Basin due to the risk they pose to kiwi and other wildlife.
Before leaving for your walk, make sure your vehicle is locked and any valuables out of sight.
Walking to Rainbow Falls, Kerikeri
Where: Rainbow Falls, Kerikeri in the Bay of Islands on New Zealand's North Island.
With a fall of 27m, this is a lovely waterfall. A clamber around the rocks in the pool can get you to the cave behind the falls - a nice little adventure.
Take the Kerikeri River walkway from the Stone Store in Kerikeri for a nice 1 hour walk to the falls. The path is mostly shaded giving some relief from the stinging New Zealand sun.
