The Kettle Valley Bike Trail: From Myra-Canyon to Castlegar
The Kettle Valley Bike Trail is the leg of the TCT (Trans Canada Trail) going through British Columbia. It is one of the longest railway bike trails in the world and it's most famous leg traverses Myra-Canyon using 18 trestles. From here I cycle through wilderness, ash forests and thunderstorms before I finally reach beautiful Christina Lake and Castlegar.

Bike the Kettle Valley Railway / Myra Canyon in Kelowna, BC
Visiting Kelowna, BC? Step back in time and ride the rails or rather ride the railway trail. We check out a small portion of the Kettle Valley Railway (aka the KVR) steering our wheels over wooden trestles, through tunnels and past some pretty stunning scenery -- all of which explains why when you're in Kelowna, you have to Bike This!
If you don't have a bike - you can rent one in the parking lot from
***Update: Since shooting this video, a rock slide has made trestles 3 impassable. You can still access the Kettle Valley Trail from Myra Parking Lot and ride to 3 or start at Ruth Station Parking Lot and make the ride to Naramata (just a little less 'epic').

Kettle Valley Trail KVR / Trans Canada Trail TCT, from Castlegar to Hope (new version)
Bikeride from Castlegar to Hope, Canada / BC.

Mountain Biking Kettle Valley Railway Trail - Beaverdell to Rock Creek Segment
Ride BC's iconic rail trail - The Kettle Valley Railway Trail. Ride along rivers, across bridges, through canyons and farmfields between the historic towns of Beaverdell and Rock Creek, British Columbia. Riding from the northern direction follows the river flow downhill making the riding easier, but with a smooth, groomed trail, it's fairly easy anyway. Suitable for riders of any level, and makes for a wonderful 2-3 hour outing.

Kettle Valley Steam Railway in Summerland - British Columbia
The historic Kettle Valley Steam Railway located in Summerland holds a unique part in BC's history, and is the only heritage railway in the Okanagan Valley. Driven by the prospect for a better life with the discovery of mineral deposits and a blossoming fruit industry, the railway was an important service for the region during those early days. The Kettle Valley Steam Railway (KVSR) operates on the only remaining portion of the historic Kettle Valley Railway (KVR) which was built between 1910-1915.

Urban Systems - Okanagan Rail Trail is Officially Open
A new gem of the Okanagan region is now officially open to the public and Urban Systems played an integral role to making this project become a reality. The Okanagan Rail Trail was officially opened in September 2018 at a ceremony held at Wood Lake, which borders the trail. The Rail Trail is a continuous 50 kilometre corridor that spans the distance between Coldstream and Kelowna. The trail is a discontinued Canadian National railway line that was purchased in 2015 by the City of Kelowna, the District of Lake Country, the Regional District of North Okanagan, the Okanagan Indian Band and the Province of British Columbia. Since the initial start of the project in June 2016 the railway has been converted into a multi-use trail for pedestrians and cyclists.
Urban Systems engineer Thomas Simkins played a key role in the project, a project that is already being recognized as an initiative that will benefit the people of the region for generations to come. “The project is a legacy, first of all because it combines four different communities, I think over 200,000 people combines them with a unique opportunity. As well, the project was fully funded either from donations from the public or grant funding, not a dollar of municipal money was spent to develop, design or construct the trail after the purchase.”
Matt Vader is the Manager Strategic Support Services from the District of Lake Country and was one of the project leads, “I invite people to come see what we’re so proud of here, as soon as you step on the trail, any part of it, I think you’ll agree that what is going on here will only get better. We’re at the first steps and this is community built, community owned and community driven and we welcome you to the Okanagan Rail Trail.”
