Khadakwasla Dam | Best Place to visit in Pune | खडकवासला धरण | MotoWrist
MotoWrist showing Khadakwasala Dam(खडकवासला धरण ) in Pune. Khadakwasala is in Sinhagad Fort Road, best place to visit near pune. Khadakwasla Dam is one of the biggest dam in Pune district. It's very huge and specially gigantic. Its another very hyped place in Pune during monsoon. But nice one indeed. Best when dam gates are open. But avoid the waters as instructed by the govt. ts very good to visit in evening only sunset time. Its beautiful when the sun kiss the water. That reflection of Sun on the water so good to visit .. do more photography. Lake view is good for a leisurely stroll. Some good eateries nearby. The stretch is good for picnickers. This place is good in rainy and winter season. You can chill out with friends and enjoy an evening besides back-water of dam. Many stalls to have corn, vada pav and pakode. Sitting and gossiping and having a sip of tea is very nice combination. Little bit parking problem but not much trouble.

--------------INSTRUCTION--------------
A prominent attraction in Pune, Khadakwasla Dam remains crowded with nature lovers, and adventure enthusiasts. If tourists love the idea of enjoying a relaxing sunny day under the canopy of a tree then there's no better place to visit than the Khadakwasla Dam. Make sure to see sunset and sunrise, and visit the Sinhagad Fort. Monsoon is the best time of the year to visit the dam, but December-February is also a great time to go.
****HISTORY OF THE KHADAKWASLA DAM****
In 1869, the detailed work on the dam was started by the Captain Fife RE of the British Army as a respite to severe droughts. The man made lake close to the dam, Khadakwasla Lake is therefore called Lake Fife.

Khadakwasla Dam - Cycling along the Khadakwasla Backwaters in Pune
The Khadakwasla Backwaters are just around 15 km from the heart of Pune. Cycling along the backwaters is idyllic - roads are not too wide and in a good state of repair, there's ample tree cover, and most importantly, not much traffic. This is in contrast with the road on the other side of the lake, a similarly scenic route, but with more motorized traffic to deal with - I'll cover this route soon enough.
The backwater route offers several stopping points, like the villages of Kudje, Mandvi, and the bird watching point at Sangrun. There are couple of climbs as well, like a truly superb climb to the Jarsheshwar temple. While riding, you're either seeing the Khadakwasla lake on one side, or mountains on the other - saying this is a scenic route would be an understatement.
If you want a longer ride, you can go on to Mutha, from where you can turn back towards Chandani Chowk (45 km) or onwards to Lavasa. Alternatively, ride on to Panshet dam, and return across the lake for a nice 60 km circuit.

SINHAGAD #VLOG 3 KHADAKWASLA DAM | PUNE | MAHARASHTRA
Khadakwasla Dam is a dam on the Mutha River 21 km (13 mi) from the centre of the city of Pune in Maharashtra, India. The dam created a reservoir known as Khadakwasla Lake which is the main source of water for Pune and its suburbs.
In the vicinity of Khadakwasla Dam is the National Defence Academy (NDA), the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), the College of Military Engineering, Pune (CME, Dapodi) and Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS). A few kilometres to the south lies Sinhagad Fort; the twin dams of Panshet and Varasgaon, which mainly supply water for irrigation but also feed into Khadakwasla Lake, lie just 8 km due west of the backwaters of Khadakwasla Lake.
Khadakwasla Dam burst at 7:30 am on 12 July 1961, causing the greatest ever disaster to strike Pune. It was not blown up, as some have been led to believe, it simply collapsed at the point of greatest impulsive force, unable to withstand the destructive forces generated by three times the quantity of water gushing in from upstream than it was meant to store at peak capacity as placid water.
The birth of Khadakwasla lake took place due to the severe droughts during the 19th century in East Pune that paralysed crop growth and prompted engineers to take up major irrigation works. Captain Fife RE of the British Army recommended a high level reservoir at Khadakwasla in 1863 and subsequently carried out detailed surveys and investigations. This man-made lake was therefore named after him, Lake Fife. It was renamed Khadakwasla Lake shortly after independence. The work on one of the oldest masonry dams of India began in 1869 and was completed in 1879 at the cost of Rs. 65 lakhs (INR 6.5 million, then the equivalent of US$2 million and GB£600,000).

Pune: Khadakwasla dam full to the brim following heavy rains, water discharged
Following heavy rains in Pune and nearby areas, Khadakwasla dam, which provides water to the city, reached 99% of its capacity. Water was released from the dam into Mutha river at regular intervals today so that the dam doesn't overflow. People living in the low-lying areas downstream have been warned to move to higher ground. Normal life in the capital has been badly affected. The IMD has predicted more rains in the catchment area of the Khadakwasla dam. The city has been witnessing good showers for the past couple of days. The heavy showers are a result of the low pressure over the Bay of Bengal.
