Buddhist caves Or khambhalida caves, in khambhalida(gondal), Rajkot District, Gujarat, india.

The caves are situated at the foot of small hillocks on the banks of a spring. They are carved out of limestone rocks. There are three caves, the central one contains the stupa which is known as chaitya cave. There are two sculptures of Bodhisattva on the either sides of the gate of the chaitya cave.

Khambhalida: The Buddhist Caves of Gujarat

At Khambhalida there are three caves, the central one being a 'chaitya' with a worn out stupa. The entrance of the chaitya is flanked by two large sculptures of the Bodhisattvas-Padmapani on the right and Vajrapani on the left. These caves date back to 4th-5th century AD and are scooped out from the local hills.

The Khapra Kodiya Caves are part of the Junagadh buddhist Cave Group.They are the oldest of the caves in the group. The caves, on the basis of scribbles and short cursive letters on the wall, are dated to 3rd-4th century BCE during the Emperor Ashokas rule and are the plainest of all the caves in the groups.These caves are also known as Khangar Mahal.They were carved in rock during the reign of Emperor Ashoka  and are considered the earliest monastic settlement in the area. These caves are along the edge of the ancient Sudarshan Lake (which no longer exists) and a little outside Uparkot fort, to the north.
