This week we go from Lijiang to Shangri-la (香格里拉). A place they used to call Zhōngdiàn (中甸). It's in Yunnan province, China, but you definitely feel the Tibetan vibes here.

Our hike to the Yakfields around Shangri-La and our Tibetan Homestay we arranged with: Khampa Caravan.
Loved it! The hike is definitely lonely and unique, though the village was not as spectaculair as we'd hoped.

And for those who wonder: Till early 2000's this town was called Zongdian, but the government thought it would attrack more tourists if they would rename the place Shangri-La. After the novel of James Hilton. Where Shangri-La is described as a mystical paradise on earth....
In 2014 the old city got fire and hundreds of houses were destroyed. Though rebuilding goes fast!

Small and compact, will stable shots. Love this mini tripod. Especially when traveling alone it's a great help.

Shangri-la 香格里拉 (Zhongdian 中甸) to Chatreng (Xiangcheng 乡城)

A bit of cameraphone video from our drive (on an inter-province highway) from Shangri-la (Zhongdian) in Yunnan to Chatreng (Xiangcheng) in Sichuan. The trip took the better part of a day (sightseeing stops included). Half the journey was on dirt roads like this. We encountered quite a few 2WD vehicles. I was glad that we were in comfy, beefy 4WD rigs. The audio is Tibetan music from the car's CD player.

Kudos to Khampa Caravan for arranging such a great trip!
