The Khandadhar Falls is located at Nandapani, Bonaigarh in Sundergarh district in the Indian state of Odisha. It is the 12th highest waterfall in India. The Khandadhar Falls is 104 kilometres (65 mi) from Rourkela via Bonaigarh, and 132 kilometres (82 mi) from Kendujhar. It is a perennial horse tail type waterfall. The Korapani Nala, a small stream, plunges from a height of 244 metres (801 ft) in a single drop. There is an interesting legend amongst the Pauri Bhuiya tribals who inhabit the area around Khandadhar.

“A Pauri Bhuiya legend speaks of how their mountains came to be so munificent. The Sundergarh branch of the community was once possessed by a rapacious goddess named Kankala Devi, who consumed trees, soil and everything else. In despair, the Pauri Bhuiya placed her on a rock, which she ate through as well—creating a deep hole from which poured out the Khandadhara (split-rock waterfall). So they had water. Then a couple from the community went to visit relatives at the eastern, or Keonjhar, end of the Khandadhar mountain range. Their prospective hosts were away but a pile of grains had been left outdoors and, amazingly, not even the birds were eating it. Inside the heap, the couple discovered a small goddess, Khand Kumari, protector of the region’s prosperity. They stole her and brought her back to Sundergarh, and so her bounty became theirs.”
Best tourist place and a picnic spot for family and friends. You can view the waterfall closely and the scenic beauty after a good climb of about 600 steps. Not advisable for heart patients and the aged. Nevertheless, you can view the spectacular fall and the serene water, below.Nice picnic spot.. Good to visit on winter days..At least 3 kilometres to 4 kilometres of trekking is required to get to the bottom of waterfall.. But once completed.. You would notice it is worth the effort.. Car parking also available.. Not much shops nearby.. Ensure to carry eatables with you.. Park available for picnic..

Khandadhar Fall is located in Khandadhar Hill, one of the hills partially in Keonjhar district. On the opposite side of the hill, there is another waterfall with the same name. Khandadhar Falls, Sundagarh which is located in Banei subdivision of Sundagarh district.
It is a 500 ft (152 m) high waterfall in the midst of a dense forest. It has a smoke like appearance created by the spraying of water as it cascades down the rock face.

Situated at 19 KMs from Bonaigarh town and 15 km from NH – 215 near Lahunipara is famous for the beautiful Waterfall. The name coined because of style of water pouring from the top of the hill straight down like Khanda Dhara ( Edge of sword). There is no direct public transportation to the waterfall from Rourkela. But one can visit this spot from Bonaigarh township easily with hired Taxi or Auto rickshaw. Visitors/travelers/tourists from Rourkela can reach at Rajamunda on NH -23 and then proceed towards Lahunipara on NH-215 and then to this spot. The said water fall lies in 210 45′ North Latitude and 850 7′ East Longitude, in village Nandapani under Bonaigarh Police Station. From the foot hill the mountain top is around 1.6 K.M which can only be approachable by foot.

Goddess Kanta is the known deity of the tribals of the this locality. It is a pleasant spot amidst thick jungles and mountains ideal for nature lovers. On reaching, a weary visitor would soon forget the strain of the arduous journey. It is a hidden treasure of nature. The scene created by the glittering waters that trickle down the magnificent waterfall can best be enjoyed from mountain top.

khandadhara_2This waterfall is the highest waterfall of Odisha having 248 meters (800ft) height. This waterfall originated from a perennial rivulet named as Korapani Nala. In the nearby area a guest house is there for the tourists under Paudi Bhuyan Development Authority for VIPs. The said rest/guest house is only available for day time stay because no night watchman or night staying facility available there.

Khandadhar Waterfall is located amidst the forest of Sundergarh (specific location is Nandapani). The Khandadhar Falls is categorized as a horsetail waterfall. The falls appear to be located on a smaller watercourse, though are said to be perennial.
During the monsoon months the water from the Koprani Nala, a rivulet, overflows and it drops down as a fall from a height of 800 feet.
This waterfall because of its height is visible from a distance of about 5 kilometres.

We had a scooty ride to Khandadhar waterfalls on 27th June 2019.

The Khandadhar waterfalls is situated at a distance of about 94km(through Birkera route)away from Rourkela.The Beautiful waterfall lies within the forest of Sundergarh.The waterfall has a height of 244 m. It occupies the distinction of being the highest waterfall in the state of Odisha.

It is a splendid sight to see the water gushing down .The surrounding greenery makes it more attractive for visitors. The waterfall looks like a Sword ( Khanda in odia) thats why it is named as Khandadhar waterfall.
