Hope you enjoy our adventure driving around in the North of Thailand. After Phetchabun we head to Tak Provence.
Phetchabun is in the lower northern region of Thailand, in the area between the northern and the central region. The province lies in the broad fertile river valley of the Pa Sak River, with mountains of the Phetchabun mountain range to the east and west.
Khao Kho & Phu Thap Berk'
Khao Kho located at Phetchabun province, about 400 km north of Bangkok. It is a famous destination on winter due to the cold weather and beautiful landscape of mountain and a sea of cloud (Talay Mork). This terrain is a home of local hill tribe called Hmong, so there are many attractions that related to Hmong culture and lifestyle especially strawberry and cabbage farms. Moreover, there are many remarkable viewpoints around Khao Kho that are worth it to see with your eyes.

Phetchabun, Thailand the Top Things To Do
Owing to its relatively cool climate, fresh air and Alpine terrain, Phetchabun is known as the ‘Thai Alps’ or ‘little Switzerland’. The province borders the North, Central and Northeast regions of Thailand and makes a worthwhile stopping off point when passing from one region to the next.
Once notorious for being the scene of a bitter communist insurgency from the 1960’s to 1980’s, the Khao Kho Mountains have since returned to peace and tranquility. Offering some of the best scenic views in the province the area has many points of interest to keep you occupied, from waterfalls, viewpoints and mountain bike trails to war memorials, a Weapons Museum and even a Royal Palace built for the current King, but for many simply driving along stunning stretches of steep winding roads proves to be the highlight of any trip to the area.
For a fascinating glimpse into the provinces’ ancient past, head to Si Thep Historical Park, which contains the ruins of the ancient town of Si Thep, built during the height of the Khmer empire around 1,000 years ago.
For anyone suffering from Temple fatigue we recommend a visit to the unique Wat Pha Sorn Kaew. Loosely translated as ‘Temple on a high glass cliff’, the Wat, just a few years old, is set on a 830 metre peak with a breathtaking backdrop of rugged mountains, and is adorned with over 5 million colourful mosaic tiles. The entire site is a real feast for the senses, and what the Temple may lack in history it more than makes up for in beauty.
Phetchabun is a province teeming with tourist potential, yet remains by in large under the radar of most travelers. But for those willing to take the time to explore, the province is a treasure trove of rich cultural heritage, ancient history and stunning misty mountains, ready to welcome you with open arms and that famous Thai smile.

Exploring Khao Kho, Petchabun | Thailand
I got the chance to explore Khao Kho, Petchabun located in Thailand. It is a small town but has many adventures to offer. I went to Wat Phrathat Sonkaew, a mountaintop temple filled with colorful mosaic tiles, art, sacred monuments.I also stopped at a viewpoint somewhere in Khao Kho that was absolutely breathtaking and best at sunset! One of my biggest dreams was to see and experience the morning mist in Thailand which was seeing the clouds high above the mountains early in the morning from my hotel. It was one of the most incredible things I've seen! Lastly, I visited a local business farm where different types of lettuce are planted.

★ ★ ★ พระตำหนักเขาค้อ - Phra Tamnak Khao Kho ★ ★ ★
Phra Tamnak Khao Kho (พระตำหนักเขาค้อ), or written: Khao Kho Royal Palace, is a Royal Palace in the Amphoe Khao Kho (อำเภอเขาค้อ, King Amphoe Khao Kho) and is nearby to Khao Ya (เขาย่า), Ban Khao Ya Nua and Ban Lao Ki (บ้านเล่ากี่).
- Attraction Details:
Located on the steep Khao Ya Mountain, Phra Tamnak Khao Kho was built as a palace for the King on the occasion of His Royal Highness’s visit to royal initiative projects as well as residents of the area. The concrete building has 15 rooms overall, built in a semi-circle shape, a unique feature that makes it stand apart from other royal abodes. However, visitors must ask officials for permission prior to any visit to the palace surroundings.
To get there from KhaoKho, take Highway 2196 and go past Km. 29 for 4 kilometers before turning left into the palace. As the road is steep, please take special precautions: vehicles should be in good condition and have high-powered engines.
Visitors can also rent a Song Thaeo (or open-air cab) at the entrance to Khao Kho in the Camp Son area. At Km. 100, there is a minibus service runs from 8.00 am-5.00 pm. Otherwise, a Song Thaeo can be rented at the Municipal Market in Mueang Phetchabun.
