Khorog Bazaar and Kivekas Hotel - Tajikistan 4K Travel Channel
On entering Khorog, a series of buildings that communicate a sense of official character line the road. They are banks, schools, and administration buildings, partly from the government. We stay in the Kivekas Hotel which is in middle of the town, directly at the Gunt River, a tributary of the Panj river. A pedestrian bridge next to the hotel leads across the river. After 2 days mainly in the car, we enjoy an almost car-free day.
Today, a visit to the Khorog Bazaar is on our agenda. It's all pretty lively, as the bazaar offers all the items and food necessary for daily life. We especially like the colorful oriental fabrics and carpets. But also the variety of fruits, household goods, and jewelry make the visit interesting. People are friendly and you easily get into a conversation with them. Yet, mastering the Russian language would be very helpful.
Through the well-kept central park, we go to the Restaurant Chorbogh, which also lies at the riverbank. On the spacious terrace you can eat well and watch life on the river. Some daredevils climb into the water and drift downstream. This does not look harmless at all.
We meet a group of sports enthusiasts in the restaurant. The men in the green T-shirts are from South Tyrol. They are from Bike Lenin. They cycle 1000 km in 4 weeks and in addition, they climb a 7000 m high mountain, the Mount Lenin.
The other two with the gray T-shirts started in Berlin and cycled here together. One of them leaves for Kazakhstan in 5 months, the other in 6 months for China.
All these athletes have our deep respect for the performance they achieve.
During another small walk through the town, we arrive at a place which is full of busts of Tajik national heroes. On the opposite side is the State University, where our guide had studied.
After dark, Eithne, our Irish fellow traveler from Dubai, draws our attention to a poster that she discovered in the afternoon. It shows the model of an opera that is emerging here. Well, we're a bit surprised, because we would not have expected an opera here.

Trip to Khorog, Tajikistan 2017
Karakul, Tajikistan
26 July 2016 - The M41, much more commonly known as the Pamir Highway, spanning from Osh in Kyrgyzstan to Khorog in Tajikistan (it's actually disputed where the highway ends - some say it continues to Dushanbe), is one of the highest-altitude highways in the world, and much famed among travellers in Central Asia. Some of the landscapes seen on this road are some of the most incredible and beautiful one will ever see in one's lifetime, including Karakul Lake.
3,960 metres above sea level lies this crater lake, Karakul (meaning Black Lake in Kyrgyz), framed by some of the snow-capped Pamir Mountains in the distance. There's a small, relatively unattractive town by the lake which has a few guesthouses and made for a convenient rest stop for lunch. Our day began in Sary Mogul in Kyrgyzstan, and we had crossed the border into Tajikistan (including the picturesque stretch of no man's land) and were making our way to Murghab, the highest town in Tajikistan. I was sad to leave Kyrgyzstan after almost a month there but Tajikistan was already promising after only a few hours in!
#SummerWithTheStans was full of visiting lakes as beautiful as Karakul!
Badakhshan TV: Festival of Healthy Living
Badakhshan TV visited the University of Central Asia’s 'Festival of Healthy Living' at the Khorog Campus in Tajikistan on Sunday November 4th. They produced a special news report in Tajik highlighting the event.
These kinds of festivals are useful and important for the community, said Khorog State University student, Loiq Rasuli. It raised our awareness on many aspects of our life, and how to follow a healthy lifestyle.
The aim of the festival is to raise the awareness of the GBAO community about the infectious diseases and healthy food including fruits and vegetables. To keep a healthy lifestyle, we must have health screenings periodically, said Alidovar Saodatsayrov, UCA student.
The Festival was organised by UCA's Student Health Council, and was attended by over 500 people from the Khorog community. Doctors from the Khorog Health Center provided health screenings on nutrition, optometry, diabetes, dentistry, oncology, and traditional medicine to the visitors.
Guests also had an opportunity to buy fruit, healthy juices, and were involved in playing other games and activities related to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
