祭神は天照皇大神、猿田彦命、天児屋根命（あめのこやねのみこと）、武嚢槌命（たけみかづちのみこと）、応神天皇、武御名方命である。吉備真備が唐に渡ったとき、右六神の御加護を受け、安全に帰国できたため、勅願を受けて建立した。仁治元年(１２４０年)、秋葉三郎重信が大松山に築城以来、御城鎮守として代々の城主の尊崇を受けた。参道□にある鐘桜には慶安四年（一六五一年)、松山藩主水谷勝隆公が奉納した時鐘があったが、第二次世界大戦のおり供出された。

Koikui Shrine (literally carp eating shrine) is a small shrine located in the Kibi Plain in Okayama Prefecture. This area was the center of the Kibi Kingdom, an ancient, powerful clan. There is a legend of Prince Kibitsuhiko from the rivaling Yamato Clan who came to the kingdom to defeat a troubling ogre.
The best way to explore this area is via bicyle. There is a 17 kilometer long cycling route through the Kibi Plain between Bizen-Ichinomiya and Soja Stations. This route passes several important shrines, temples and burial mounds along the way. Though visitors can start the route from either side, the route is slightly easier to locate if begun from Bizen-Ichinomiya Station.
Koikui Shrine is famous for the location where Prince Kibitsuhiko first subdued the ogre. After the ogre transformed and fled as a bird, the prince changed into a hawk to hunt him down. As a result, the ogre made the deadly mistake of changing into a carp, whereas the prince turned into a cormorant.

Kibitsuhiko Shrine, located in the Kibi Plain, is well-known due to the Legend of Prince Kibitsuhiko. Kibi Plain was the center of Kibi Kingdom, a powerful clan. However, in the 4th century, Prince Kibitsuhiko from the rivaling Yamato Clan came to the Kibi Plains to defeat a terrorizing ogre.
Kibitsuhiko Shrine was built in 1697 on the spot Prince Kibitsuhiko is said to have stopped to pray before launching his assault on the ogre. This shrine is said to be the most important shrine in this region. Prince Kibitsuhiko is said to have battled the ogre here, piercing one of the ogre's eyes with an arrow and prompting the ogre to transform into a bird and fly away.

Bitchu-Kokubunji Temple is located in the Kibi Plain, outside central Okayama City. The Kibi Plain was the center of the Kibi Kingdom, an ancient, powerful clan. Many historical attractions such as such as burial mounds and shrines are located on the plain. The best way to explore this plain is by bicycle as many historic points of interests are scattered throughout the cycling trail.
Bitchu-Kokubunji Temple, a 34 meter tall five story pagoda, was founded in 741. Near the temple is a bicycle shop rental shop where bicycles can be rented or returned.
Alternatively, there is a bus to Soja Station for visitors who do not wish to cycle the route’s last section (approximately 5 kilometers).

Kibi dango are known by all Japanese as a famous souvenir from Okayama. These bite-sized sweets are said to be the food that Momotaro took with him on his demon hunting adventures and shared with his animal friends. The glutinous rice cakes have a fluffy yet chewy texture and come in various flavors from matcha to white peach. With a Momotaro design, even the package of these sweets is interesting. With a rich variety of flavors available—including Muscat and white peach, specialties of Okayama Prefecture—there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
It is made by forming gyūhi, a sort of soft mochi, into flat round cakes. Glutinous rice, starch, syrup and sugar are the basic ingredients.It is manufactured by some fifteen confectioners based in Okayama City. While perhaps originally made from kibi (proso millet), the modern recipe uses little or no millet and substantively differs from kibi dango (黍団子 millet dumpling) of yore, famous from the Japanese heroic folk tale of Momotarō or Peach Boy; nevertheless, Kibi dango continues to be represented as being the same as the folk hero Peach Boy's dumpling.
The simplistic, and widely disseminated notion regarding its invention is that it was developed in the early Ansei era (ca. 1856) by the confectioner Kōeidō, but a local historian has traced a more elaborate multi-phased history in which the founding of this wagashi shop and the development of the modern recipe is pushed to a number of years later. Some hypotheses trace its pre-history to the dumpling (or some other food item) served at the Kibitsu Shrine in Okayama.
The resident deity of this shrine, Kibitsuhiko, is a legendary ogre-slayer, claimed to be the true identity of Momotarō, especially by Okayama locals. The theory originated in the 1930s, and since then there has been concerted effort in the region to promote the folk hero Momotarō as a local of Kibi Province, and his dumplings as Kibi dango by default.

At the Gokonomiya Shrine Kyoto 御香宮神社 京都 Kencha 献茶 (dedicated tea ceremony) and Genjoraku 還城楽 (finding-a-snake dance) are dedicated to Jingu Kogo, the deity of the Gokonomiya Shrine. Jingu Kogo is worshipped as the goddess of safe delivery and fighting and called Saint's Mother God. She began her bloodless conquest of three Korean kingdoms aided by a pair of divine jewels that allowed her to control the tides. Her unborn son, later deified as Hachiman, the god of war, remained in her womb for three years, giving her time to complete the fight and return to Japan. The empress-regent Jingu Kogo (170-269) ruled for 69 years.
The Gokonomiya Shrine 御香宮神社 has been famous for its exceptional sweet-smelling water gushing out of the ground of the shrine. The name of Goko (scent) was given by Emperor Seiwa (850-880). Still people come from all over to take home the water which is said to alleviate illness. Fushimi sake is made of this medium hard water. The term onna sake (female sake) is used to describe this sake, giving an indication of its delicate, palatable flavour.
Kencha shiki 献茶 is the most formal of tea ceremonies and dedicated to the deity. In this ritual every ceremonial step should be purified and sanctified. The ladies donned a white face mask so that the unclean breath of mortals would not touch the Holy Spirit.
Genjoraku 還城楽 is a part of ceremonial dance and music performed in imperial courts for over twelve hundred years. It was often used to celebrate the return of the emperor to the palace. This magnificently costumed finding-a-snake dance refers to the Central Asian practice to eat snakes for medicinal purposes. It begins with the hunting of the snake and, after an attendant has brought out a sculptured coil of reptile, the dancer examines and manipulates it in a solo that picks up in speed and intensity as it continues in its abstract and mesmerizing way. Evidence of a distant Indian import can be found in an ancient Vedic tale. An Indian hero fights a poisonous snake, is victorious and returns triumphant to his castle.

The Kibi Plain located outside central Okayama City was the center of the Kibi Kingdom, an ancient, powerful clan. Historical attractions such as such as burial mounds and shrines are located on the plain.
The Kibi Kingdom is famous for the Legend of Prince Kititsuhiko. Prince Kibitsuhiko is a prince from a rivaling clan (Yamato Clan). He came to the kingdom to defeat an ogre. From this legend, the famous folktale of Momotaro emerged. Momotaro is a story of boy, born from a peach, who defeated a group of terrorizing ogres.
Cyclists will be happy to learn a popular 17 kilometer long cycling route through the Kibi Plain between Bizen-Ichinomiya and Soja Stations. This route loosely follows the legend of Prince Kibitsuhiko and passes several important shrines, temples and burial mounds along the way.
Though visitors can start the route from either side, the route is slightly easier to locate if begun from Bizen-Ichinomiya Station.
A “mama chari” single speed bicycle can be rented rented at either station. Users can return the bicycle at the other end or at Bitchu-Kokubunji Temple .

Tsukuriyama Kofun
The Kibi Plain is home to several burial mounds (kofun) which were constructed during the Kofun Period (300 to 538). Tsukuriyama Kofun is the largest in the region, and was the largest kofun in Japan at the time of its construction. On the top of the mound is a shrine visitors can visit. There is also a trail along the top of the kofun that offers beautiful views over the surrounding plains.
