This part of Hwy 131 one mile south of La Farge , WI has never flooded before . But the 7 to 11 inches of rain in the area past 24 hours caused the Kickapoo River to go to historic flood levels.
Canoe Kickapoo River, WI
Said to be the crookedest river in the world. Flora (the dog) and I set off from Ontario headed for bridge 5. It was a wonderful day. Lots of people on the river, but they were all very nice.

Kayaking the Kickapoo River
Steve and I paddled the Kickapoo River from Ontario to Campsite S on the first day of summer. The Kickapoo snakes through beautiful bluffs and midwest mountains while averaging 15-30 foot wide. If you have not had the chance to paddle this river, I highly suggest you make it a top paddling priority. CFS for this trip read 126 on the Ontario gauge.
Use Dirfty's in Ontario if you need to rent a boat or arrange a shuttle. With heavy rain in the forecast, the staff made sure we had emergency evacuation routes and encouraged us to call them, regardless of the time, if we needed any help. Great people at Drifty's!!

The Bare Beach Campers greet participants in the Kickapoo Dam Challenge at the Kickapoo Valley Reserve Oct. 1, 2011. After racing 7 miles down the Kickapoo River, participants had to bike 14 miles and then finish with a 5K run.
