Kidwelly is a town and community in Carmarthenshire, south west Wales, approximately 7 miles north-west of the most populous town in the county, Llanelli. In the 2001 census the community of Kidwelly returned a population of 3,289, increasing to 3,523 at the 2011 Census. It lies on the River Gwendraeth above Carmarthen Bay.
A field in the neighbouring forest of Kingswood, Maes Gwenllian is known as the location of a battle in 1136, in which Princess Gwenllian, sister of Owain Gwynedd, led her husband's troops into battle against a Norman army during his absence. She is believed to have been killed either during the battle or shortly afterwards, historians debate whether her death was at Maes Gwenllian or if she was marched back to Kidwelly Castle to be beheaded there.
Although being an ancient town, Kidwelly grew significantly during the industrial revolution, as did many other towns in southern Wales. The town was home to a large brickworks and tinworks. Little evidence now exists of such activities since the closure of the industrial works, with the exception of Kidwelly Industrial Museum.
Local attractions include Kidwelly Castle, founded in 1106; a fourteenth-century bridge and gate; the former quay (now a nature reserve); a Norman parish church, and an industrial museum. Kidwelly Carnival is an annual event held on the second Saturday of July. Previous carnivals have featured aerial displays. The town is twinned with French village Saint-Jacut-de-la-Mer.
Kidwelly is connected to Llanelli and Carmarthen by the A484 road. There are local buses running through Kidwelly, linking the town with Llanelli and Carmarthen, with a main stop in the town centre. Some services were withdrawn in 2014. Kidwelly railway station is on the West Wales Line. Westbound services from Kidwelly terminate at Carmarthen or Pembroke Dock, with less frequent direct services to Fishguard and Milford Haven. - Pembrey Airport is approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) east of Kidwelly.

Ferryside & Kidwelly. trains and an Industrial Museum 12/06/2014.
Time spent on a glorious Summer Day at Ferryside, and Kidwelly in Carmarthenshire in West Wales. Firstly we see passenger trains at Ferryside still under the control of semaphore signals from the Signal Box on the Station. We then move on to Kidwelly where we see some of the old industrial exhibits on show. It's a fascinating place to visit to learn about the tinplate industry and Coal Mining.

National Waterfront Museum, Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales, United Kingdom, Europe
The National Waterfront Museum, Swansea or NWMS is a museum situated in Swansea, Wales, forming part of the National Museum Wales. It is an Anchor Point of ERIH, The European Route of Industrial Heritage. Consisting of a major new slate and glass building integrated with an existing Grade II listed warehouse (formerly the Swansea Industrial and Maritime Museum), the new museum deals with Wales' history of industrial revolution and innovation by combining significant historical artifacts with modern technologies, such as interactive touchscreens and multimedia presentation systems. Building and exhibition design was carried out by Wilkinson Eyre and Land Design Studio respectively, and Davis Langdon was project manager for the construction. Much effort has been put into accessibility for the new museum, and is one of the first museums in the United Kingdom to feature multilingual voiceovers, as well as British Sign Language captioning on all interactive content. The museum, which secured funding from the Welsh Development Agency and the Heritage Lottery Fund (among others) was opened in October 2005.
The collections on display include maritime, transport, technology and retail artefacts.

Today I took my family out to Swansea city to visit the National Waterfront Museum.
It was free entry for everyone and we got to experience the history of the city which was really fascinating. The museum overlooks the Marina which had really stunning views from the balcony.

Gloucester Waterways Museum.
Gloucester Waterways Museum is housed in a Victorian warehouse at Gloucester Docks in the city of Gloucester, England. It is located along the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal and River Severn. It is one of several museums and attractions operated by the Canal & River Trust, the successor to The Waterways Trust.
The museum opened in 1988, it was formerly known as the National Waterways Museum, Gloucester, one of three museums operated by The Waterways Trust that focused on the history of canals in Britain. The museum went through extensive refurbishments between 2007 and 2008, adding new galleries. In the Summer of 2010 the Gloucester site was renamed the Gloucester Waterways Museum, focussing on the local area and meaning that they could apply for funding differently to a national museum.
The museum features a collection of boats including narrowboats, river barges, canal and river tugs, and a steam-powered dredger. There is also a steam crane and heavy oil engine in the setting of a canal repair yard, complete with working machine shop, forge and weighbridge, and a hydraulic accumulator. The museum uses modern interactive techniques and hands on exhibits, which includes a model of canal.
The Gloucester Waterways Museum is part of Llanthony Warehouse, Gloucester, build in 1873. Designed by Capel N Tripp, it is six storeys high, built of red bricks, with a slate roof. The warehouse would have been used for timber, grain and alcohol. The building was designated Grade II listed status on 14 December 1971 and was converted to become the National Waterways Museum in 1987.
