Travelling Tanzania and Volunteering with KYGN - Moshi, Kilimanjaro, Safari, Zanzibar
One of the craziest and most exciting travel experiences I've had - and easily the best volunteering.
We spent 3 weeks in Kilimanjaro, 4 days on safari across Tanzania, and 1 week in Zanzibar.
In June, we set off to help out at a small organisation called Kilimanjaro Young Girls in Need, run by the incredible Annamariah Kanondo :) as requested, hopefully this video can help to get some recognition for KYGN TZ as their work is fantastic, they offer a range of volunteering all completely for free :)
Here is a breakdown of the video in case any bits are of particular interest:
00:30 - Social welfare work in the local community (seeing whether the children were fit to live in their homes or whether the family needed additional help from the school)
1:55 - a super cool time lapse of us painting the mural we designed in the children's safe house
3:22 - a unique tour of a market in Moshi given to us by a local as thanks for buying his overpriced mangoes
4:28 - an abandoned railway in moshi used by the locals to commute back home (and an incredible view of Kilimanjaro at sunset)
4:47 - assisting in several business and family planning workshops for older girls
5:15 - a trip to the hot springs near Kilimanjaro
5:46 - basically a montage of super cute kids at the school
6:38 - Kilimanjaro Animal Hospital (Kilimanjaro Animal CREW) does amazing work rescuing and rehabilitating animals
6:58 - a four day safari of Tarangine, Serengeti and Ngorongoro crater
7:30 - (the best moment of my life)
9:05 - a retreat to Zanzibar to see the bluest ocean known to man haha
Music used is not my own -
Seve - Tez Cadey
Lost Colours - Fakear
World Of Colors - VIJAY, SOFIA, NOTTE

Tanzania Trip April 2019: California Crew
This is a highlight overview of our Kilimanjaro climb and Tanzanian safari. It was the trip of a lifetime. I (Chase Ogden) went along with my dad (Scott Ogden), my cousin (Noelle), and my good friend (Matt Tomaneng). We went during April 2019 but dealt with minimal rain. During this trip, countless amounts of people were very kind and helped us along the way!
We used Viva Africa for the whole trip and would recommend them 10 times out of 10!
Thanks for watching and let us know if you have any questions.

About Kilimanjaro
Mount Kilimanjaro is actually a dormant volcano (don’t worry, its last major eruption was more than 360,000 years ago!) and is the highest mountain in Africa. You will find the highest free standing mountain in the world in the Kilimanjaro National Park, Tanzania (‘free standing’ meaning it is not part of a mountain range). It is made up of three volcanos; Shira, Mawnzi and Kibo. The Uhuru summit, located on the Kibo volcano, is the second closest point on the earth to the sun.
There are seven established routes to climb Kilimanjaro, and each route varies in length, difficulty and scenery
Our carefully planned Kilimanjaro itinerary uses the Lemosho route. This is the newest route up the mountain and is favoured because of its beauty, remoteness and success rate. Think beautiful scenery, panoramic vistas, remote landscapes and varied terrain. The route has a great acclimatisation profile; featuring repeated ‘climb high sleep low’ opportunities, maximising the chances that our clients reach the summit and have an amazing overall experience.
Follow Alice to Kilimanjaro and embark on an amazing new adventure with friends from around the world!

Mount Kilimanjaro climbing routes
There are several routes by which to reach Kibo, or Uhuru Peak, the highest summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, namely, Marangu, Rongai, Lemosho, Shira, Umbwe and Machame.
Being one of the most popular mountains in the world, roughly 30,000 trekkers every year try to reach the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro. According to research published by the Climb Kilimanjaro Guide, the average summit success rate across all climbers and routes is 65%. However, summit success rate heavily depends upon what route is climbed as routes vary considerably in terms of acclimatization profile and duration.
