5 Day Back Country Canoe Trip - Killarney Provincial Park, Ontario Canada 2018
For those of you who wish you could watch another 15 minutes from that trip, you are in luck. Caitlin made her own version with all the scenes I cut out and posted her film on The Timber Life channel here,
Our first stop was Killarney Outfitters. We’ve been renting canoes and picking up last minute gear from them for many years so it was a real pleasure to get to meet the owner Ted who helps us pick a new camp stove.
We got an MSR Dragonfly stove and it's awesome. Making coffee and cooking is so much quicker than starting a fire and since the fire ban had just lifted we wanted to be careful with having open fires
Our Favorite Stove:
Ted also gave us a Firefly water bottle/flashlight to test and we really liked it as well. It’s a local company and a very clever idea so we hope they do well. fireflyoutdoors.ca
With a few more items in our cart and the canoe rental sorted, we were ready for adventure.
We pushed off from George Lake around 11 am. After two short portages and a beautiful day of canoeing, we arrived at the far island on Killarney Lake where we decided to camp for the night. We quickly set up camp and went for a swim.
Cooking was easy this trip as Harvest Foodworks gave us a bunch of dehydrated meals to test out that were delicious. harvestfoodworks.com
Since we were only camping in this location one night we didn’t bother putting a tarp over us and that night was an incredible thunderstorm and pouring rain. Luckily our Marmot Limelight 2p kept us dry.
The tent we use:
After a relaxing morning, we packed up and headed to OSA lake where we camped for another 4 nights.
Over the course of the trip and pleasure paddles, we paddled 54km and walked 1,150m of portage trail (+ multiple trips)
How you enjoy the video.

Silver Peak Winter Camping - Killarney
Silver Peak Winter Camping - Killarney 2016
On February 27, 2016, five wannabe adventurers, including myself, set out to hike to the highest point in the LaCloche Mountains - Silver Peak. I use the verb, hike rather than climb, as Ontario, Canada is not exactly known for it's mountain ranges and challenging climbs and Killarney Provincial Park is no exception. However, by our weekend-warrior standards, it's as good as it gets, and the scenery truly is spectacular despite it's relatively easy difficulty and accessibility rating. This was my first time winter camping in Killarney, and my first winter ascent of Silver Peak, so I was really looking forward to it.

Black Bear at Killarney Outfitters
Sorry for the shaky footage. I was in a moving car!
This little bear was in a fenced area at the Killarney Outfitters in Killarney Provincial Park, Ontario, Canada. I thought he was a pet but just after the video shuts off, he hops through the back fence and into the forest.
The World's Most Boring Bear Video
On the 2nd day of our canoe trip in Killarney Provincial Park at the end of August, 2014, Madeline and I saw a couple of families of black bears. This one had a mother black bear and 3 cubs. As you can tell, we didn't impress the bears very much - in fact we were so boring to them that Momma Bear decided a nap would be more exciting.

8-Day Canoe Trip in Killarney Provincial Park - Part 2
Part 2 of our Killarney canoe trip. We had a couple of relatively easy days through the more remote northern lakes in the park. It was nice to relax in camp, do some swimming, and enjoy being the only ones on the lake.

Killarney 8-Day Canoe Trip - Route Preview
A preview of the route we will be taking through Killarney Provincial Park for our 2016 canoe trip.
This year we decided to go somewhere different than Algonquin. We're very excited to check out this beautiful park. Our route takes us around most of the park, but in order to do so we needed an extra day and night. No complaints there.
If you have advice or tips for any or all of our route, please share in the comments.
