Killarney Racecourse is without doubt Ireland's Most Scenic Racecourse and possibly the World's.

With the magnificent McGuillycuddy Reeks, Lakes of Killarney and Ross Castle providing the backdrop, the view as the horses pass the finishing line can only be described as breathtaking.

Each year Killarney hosts 11 days of racing split over three Summer Festivals. The three day May meeting opens the season and the season builds towards the four day July meeting. This festival is one of the highlights on Ireland's social calendars and is one of the best days out during the summer season. Our racing season closes with the August four day meeting; this meeting marks the beginning of the National Hunt season proper with many of Ireland's top National Hunt horses reappearing during our four day festival.

Kerry Gathering TV were lucky enough to spend a day at the Killarney Races recently where we got a distinct flavour of what makes a day at the races such a special day out. We also caught up with Hector Ó hEochagáin who spoke about Lá Ná Gaeilge and why the races in Killarney are so special, we also spoke with a few race goers who told us what it is that attracts them to this annual event.

I take a trip to Killarney in County Kerry for the Historic Stages Rally, the conditions were damp and slippy and led to a few crashes.
