STORYLINE
Footage from APTN North Korea showed tens of thousands of North Koreans lining the snowy streets of Pyongyang on Wednesday, wailing and clutching their chests as a black hearse carried late leader Kim Jong Il's body through the capital for a final farewell.
The procession also put his young son and successor, Kim Jong Un, on centre stage.
He was head mourner on a gray and freezing day, walking with one hand on the hearse, the other raised in salute, his head somberly bowed against the wind.
Associated Press Television News was the only foreign independent media crew covering the event.
At the end of the 2 1/2-hour procession, Kim Jong Un stood flanked by the top party and military officials who are expected to be his inner circle of advisers as goose-stepping soldiers carrying flags and rifles marched by.
Kim Jong Il - who led the nation with absolute rule after father Kim Il Sung's death in 1994, through a devastating famine that killed hundreds of thousands and a controversial drive to build up nuclear and missile programs that earned North Korea international sanctions and condemnation - died of a heart attack December 17 at age 69.

Ritual show of loyalty in North Korea
Tens of thousands of North Koreans filled Kim Il Sung square in central Pyongyang on Sunday, in a rally considered a ritual show of loyalty.
In the past few years, this rally would follow the New Year's speech by the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. This year, and because the leader did not make the speech, the rally is instead held in support of the results of the late December big party meeting, which were reported on the first of January by state media.
Hundreds of rows of people filled Kim Il Sung Square, with senior officials standing on a balcony above.

Pyongyang Mass Rally 2019 Support of Kim's New Year Message [CC]
Pyongyang, January 5 (KCNA) -- There took place a Pyongyang mass rally at Kim Il Sung Square on Friday, where the participants pledged to thoroughly implement the important tasks set forth by Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un in his New Year Address.
Seen at the platform were Pak Pong Ju, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, vice-chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK and premier of the DPRK Cabinet, senior officials of the Party and government O Su Yong, An Jong Su, Ro Tu Chol, Choe Hwi and Pak Thae Dok, vice-premiers of the Cabinet, officials of the Party and power organs, industrial establishments and co-op farms in Pyongyang and persons of labor feats, working people, youths and students.
Kim Nung O, alternate member of the Political Bureau of C.C., WPK and chairman of the Pyongyang City Committee of the WPK, made a report.
He said the New Year Address of the Supreme Leader serves as a militant banner indicating the path for bringing about a revolutionary upsurge on all fronts of socialist construction.
He recalled that the Supreme Leader encouraged Pyongyang City to be a model and standard-bearer of the country in the grand revolutionary advance for attaining higher goals of building a thriving country and guided its work step by step.
He called on officials, Party members and working people in the city to turn out in the drive for further increasing the might of the socialist self-supporting economy with self-reliance as a treasured sword for prosperity.
He underlined the need to strive for the prosperity and development of the socialist homeland under the blueprint unfolded by the Supreme Leader in his New Year Address, rallied closer around the great Party.
Then resolution speeches were made.
They said that all the people turned out as one in the general advance for devotedly carrying out the important tasks advanced by the Supreme Leader in his New Year Address with greater confidence and ambition.
The participants marched past the square in procession at the end of the rally.

Kim Il Sung's 106th Birthday celebrations in Pyongyang, North Korea
YPT's Matt takes you through scenes of Kim Il Sung's 106th Birthday, otherwise known as the Day of the Sun in Pyongyang, North Korea. April 14th 2018.
First up is the Kimilsungia / Kimjongila Exhibition House, followed by a relatively unique stroll through Moran Hill, taking part in a mass dance out the front of the Pyongang Indoor Stadium, finishing up with fireworks over the Taedong River and Juche Tower, as viewed from Kim Il Sung Square.

A Volvo 144 passing the Kim Il Sung square in Pyongyang
In 1973 Volvo recieved an order for 600 Volvo 144 in different colours. The cars were delivered in 1974.
Volvo was guaranteed payment by the Swedish government, which offcourse never got paid by the North Koreans.
