Sinkhole at Kin Coulee Park in Medicine Hat
On September 29th, 2009, i was at Kin Coulee Park with my two daughters, Jazlyn, age 3 and Karyss, age 9 months. We were playing in the leaves and then decided to go over to the playground. Jazlyn ran off ahead of me and I was carrying Karyss. As I was walking, the ground collapsed beneath me, pulling Karyss and I down with it. Somehow, by the grace of God, we did not fall in. My stomach caught on the edge. I looked immediately to see what the happened and all i could see was my feet dangling down above the sewage. I pushed my baby as far away as i could with the arm that i had around her and then i got myself up. All the while, telling my other daughter to stay back. I was frozen with fear for a few minutes while i just sat and held my girls. I didn't even cry because i was still in shock from what had happened. I took my story to the Medicine Hat news so they could notify the public of the danger but they didn't seem to understand the severity of the situation as they described it as a waist-deep hole. We went and measured today and the hole is actually 7 feet deep. There is no way that my baby girl and I would have survived falling in there. This could have happened to anybody! These vault-like structures exist at various parks throughout the city, according to the manager of building services for the city of Medicine Hat. This needs to be fixed before somebody does die!!!

Saamis Tepee and Police Point Park - Medicine Hat, AB, Canada
My first 19 slides are from the Saamis Tepee and the surrounding area. The last 18 are of Police Point Park in Medicine Hat.
About the SAAMIS TEPEE
~~Saamis Tepee is a very recognizable landmark located easily in the community of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada.
Towering at just over 65 metres (215 feet) the giant steel tepee looms over the Seven Persons Creek river valley and its coulees.
The Saamis Tepee was built in 1988 for the Calgary Winter Olympics by Steve Illes. The tepee once housed the famous Olympic flame during the ceremonies.
The tepee was meant as a symbol of the First Nation people during the Olympics. The colors of the tepee rings have significance. The white ring is said to represent purity, the red represents the sun and the blue means water.
After the Olympics, the giant tepee was disassembled and moved to Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. Today, it sits on a ridge, easily viewed from Highway #1 when coming and going from Medicine Hat.
Inside the Saamis Tepee are a series of 10 historic story boards detailing the lives of the First Nation people. There are giant murals, beautifully done - each with information billboards.
From the Saamis Tepee there is a recreation trail leading north which connects to the Kin Coulee Park and the Heritage Trail System.~~
About POLICE POINT PARK
~~Police Point Park is a wilderness park and recreation destination situated on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River in the community of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada.
The 98 hectare ( 242 acre) park is a wildlife nature reserve heavily decorated in a forest of cottonwood trees with open fields of prairie grasslands. It is a popular destination for walking, sightseeing and birdwatching.
This Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada park is part of a flood plain and is identified as a riparian area with a sensitive eco system. At one time the parkland was a NWMP (North West Mounted Police) outpost monitoring the fur trade and policing whisky.
Today, it is a wilderness park with very little human intervention located away from city sights and sounds. The lack of noise and high people traffic combined with the high volume of trees and the rich river environment - the park attracts many birds to the area.
The Police Point Park is one of the more popular birdwatching destinations in Medicine Hat for viewing song birds and waterfowl.
Some of the bird sightings may include the Downy and Hairy Woodpeckers, Fox Sparrows, White-throated Sparrows, ,American Tree Sparrows, American Kestrel, Juncos, Red-breasted Nuthatch, House Finches and Black-capped Chickadees.
Connecting to the park is a paved trail and exploring the park is a series of red rock gravel, dirt and sand trails. The paved trail connects the city of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada to Police Point Park via the Heritage Trail System.
The side trails in the Police Point Park explore the forested park and the banks of the South Saskatchewan River. Many of the trails are loop routes. Most are very easy going, short and level paths.
The main gravel pathway leads visitors out to the bend in the South Saskatchewan River where the mighty river meets the Rose and Seven Persons Creeks.
Along the trails are information signs, lookout viewing platforms and some sightseeing benches providing some of the best views in the community of the river.
At the entrance of the park is the Police Point Nature Centre. Here they provide washrooms, interpretive guides and more information signs.~~

Canada Day Droning in Medicine Hat 2012
Went down to Kin Coulee Park with the AR Drone on Canada Day. Was going to fly it over the crowd but by the time I got it to the crowd, my battery life was down to 38 percent. So I didn't want to take a chance over the crowd and have it crap out. Need to find a battery that will last longer. You only get 8-10minutes with the one they supply you with the drone. So I gotta find a Longer Lasting Battery, or keep a few more on the belt. That's the only major thing I don't like about it. Plus the view from the camera looking down at the ground view I find to have poor quality almost like it were looking through a foggy window. So then I stick with the front view camera as the picture is more cleaner.
Played a song by Guns & Roses in the background as the Drone dosen't record sound, but this version is being played by the band JOHN 5.
