We arrived early morning in Chiang Rai(Dec 26, 2016). We visited the white temple named Wat Rong Khun(malapit lang sa highway na babaan ng bus). It is a unique temple that stands out through the white color and the use of pieces of glass in the plaster, sparkling in the sun. The white color signifies the purity of the Buddha, while the glass symbolizes the Buddha’s wisdom and the Dhamma, the Buddhist teachings.
At the center of Chiang Rai city finds the monument of King Mengrai, the great king who founded Lanna Thai kingdom. King Mengrai was originally the ruler of Nakhon Hiran Ngoen Yang, an ancient town off in Chiang Saen. With a will to create a great kingdom of Lanna folks, he advanced his power to nearby kingdoms (Chiang Rai was one of them) until he successfully established the Lanna Thai kingdom in 1296 with his power centered at Chiang Mai.
The Sirindhorn Chinese Language and Culture Center is located within the Mae Fah Luang University. The center was established through the cooperation between Mae Fa Luang University and the People’s Republic of China. The center was built as a memorial to honor HRH Princess Mother’s 100th birthday anniversary, representing a symbol of friendships between Thailand and China. The architecture and landscape see an influence from authentic Suzhou Chinese style, with some materials (such as tiles, doors and marbles) were actually shipped from China to maintain its authenticity.
In Thai, ‘baan’ means home or house and ‘dam’ means black. Black House is a contemporary artwork museum comprised of artist Thawan Dunchanee’s lives work.

Wat Ming Muang, is a seven-hundred-year old temple built by King Mengrai the great as a memorial of his mother (it was expected, that the Kings and Lords build temples in memory of their ancestors.
Original name of the temple had a meaning: 'The Temple of Crouching Elephants'.
The reason (as we understood) was, that the Royal elephants took here a gentle posture, when carried the Emerald Buddha Statute to Chiang Mai.
But whatever the story is: the temple is not only old(est in Chiang Rai) –but also very very nice.

Chiang Rai is a city in northern Thailand, in the mountainous province of the same name. They city is near the borders of Laos and Myanmar (formerly Burma). Wat Phra Kaew is a royal temple that once housed the jade Emerald Buddha and now displays a replica. Nearby, the Navel City Pillar is a monument made of more than 100 Khmer-style pillars. Mae Fah Luang Art and Cultural Park is a museum showcasing Lanna artifacts.

In 1959, Chinese soldiers had arrived in this area for fighting Burma. Since that time, they built a village here, and started the tea planting as well.
