Urbex: Kingston Penitentiary Tour
This was a tour through the high security Kingston Penitentiary which just closed September 30, 2013 and opened in 1835 making the prison itself 178-years-old. It was considered the oldest operating prison before its closure. Kingston Penitentiary held Canada's most notorious criminals such as serial killers Paul Bernardo and Clifford Olson, and a famous Canadian bank robber, Tyrone Conn.
It was closed because the federal government said it is outdated and too expensive to run, so I guess you could say that these buildings have served their own time.
Its future is unknown, but because it is a Heritage Site, it cannot be demolished. I would personally like to see them use it for ongoing tours similar to Alcatraz, but don't believe that will be happening as they have it up for sale. A developer will likely transform the buildings into lakeside condos, but nobody knows as of yet.

Kingston Penitentiary, Kingston, Ontario.
We were fortunate enough to secure 6 tickets to the Kingston Penitentiary tour on November 3rd, 2013. Although the tour area was only a small fraction of the prison, this place was utterly HUGE!
The convicts not only built the actual prison, but also Rockwood Insane Asylum, which is 5 minutes down King Street from the prison. A very cool & interesting tour!!!

Just our trip pics from Kingston Pen Tour . If you want to find out more info about this location i suggest you go on the tour your self , it was fantastic . There is loads to see of the old prison etc and much history until its closure from not being able to keep up with possible damage done to the structure and safety of its workers. No one can film the location , there was probably a time long ago when you could, you can only take pictures and keep up with whatever group you were assigned to , they also have an amazing gift shop and fabulous tour guides to educate you on Kingstons most infamous and largest prison which held some of Canada's life sentence offenders.
