Fly Fishing for Trout in Winter - UKFlyFisher - Episode 2 - Lure Edition
In today's episode, my brother joins me on another trip to Ellerdine Lakes to give you a few tips and tricks on winter fishing for trout.
We had a great day filming and all who journeyed with us caught well, with a few PB's caught along the way.
We hope you enjoy our content.
Tips to take away.
Tip number 1 get there early. Youll be the first fly they have seen in over 12 hours.
Tip number 2 keep mobile.
Tip number 3 vary your retrieve.
Tip number 4 avoid other anglers as too much pressure pushes the fish out and spooks them.
Tip number 5 fish a sink tip line if its flat calm. ( Even when it's not this is probably the best line you can use. )
Tip number 6 Check your hook if you are missing fish. You may have blunted it on a back cast or other issues like the bizarre situation I was faced with.
Tip number 7 fish alongside weed beds as trout hide in ambush and strike into food along these areas.
Tip number 8 if the takes dry up a change of flies can bring a few extra fish.
Tip number 9 don't overfish a spot
Tip number 10 cast to rising fish
Tip number 11 you can return to a hot spot later in the day providing it has been given a rest.

We would both like to dedicate our performance on the day and this video to our Nan who sadly was taken ill just before the filming of this episode and has since passed away.

Dry Fly Takes, fly fishing footage from practice at the 2019 Stillwater Bank International
Fishing dry flies during practice at Laois Angling Centre, Ireland. Peg 13 turned out to be a lucky one for me during the competition, unfortunately though the fish didn’t come as easy as this on match day with a change in the weather. England took gold, Wales silver, Ireland bronze and Scotland in fourth.

My 10,000th Tasmanian Wild trout caught on Mepps Bug spinner.
After moving to Tasmanian back in March 2000 I have finally caught my 10,000th Tasmanian wild trout. It something I never planned to do at all, my time trout fishing is just to enjoy it and take in the beautiful surrounds that I chase them in. Keeping a diary & records of every trout fishing trip I go on came in very handy, had I not been one for keeping them I doubt I would have every know how many Tasmanian trout I would have caught. Over my 54 years of trout fishing in South Australia & Tasmania there's no doubt I have already past the 10,000th trout quite some time ago. This is about my Tasmanian trout fishing only.. Today I only needed to catch seven trout to reach the milestone, finished the day with fourteen trout caught & released.
cheers

Old Photographs Kinross Perthshire Scotland
Tour Scotland wee video of old photographs of Kinross, Scottish Gaelic: Ceann Rois, a town in Perthshire. It is the traditional county town of the historic county of Kinross-shire. Kinross was originally linked by railway to Perthshire, Fife and Clackmannanshire until the rail links gradually disappeared. The town is located on the shores of Loch Leven, and there are boat trips around the loch and to Loch Leven Castle, where Mary, Queen of Scots was famously held prisoner in 1567. The two main fish species present in Loch Leven are brown trout and perch: the loch's trout have long been noted for their unusual colour and high quality. Other fish living in the loch include sticklebacks, pike, eels, and minnows.
