You can also camp at Kirkham hot springs during the warm months.

Elk in time lapse 2011 - Kirkham Hot Springs Lowman Idaho
I saw this herd of elk coming real close to our camping spot at Kirkham Hot Springs in Idaho. I got the camera out and set it to time lapse because they weren't moving too much. After about 18 minutes of shooting, suddenly a dog comes and spooks the elk away.

Eagle Family Outings - Kirkham Hot Springs
We need you. Help us bring back some of the fun and enjoyment that comes with good wholesome family-style outings on Sabbath afternoons. All are welcome and encouraged to come along.
Bring a swimsuit, river shoes if you have some, a towel and sun-block. Also, bring your dinner because you just won't want to leave. A can of soup is great after it has been cooking in the spring near the source. A watermelon is also great after cooling in the river for a while. This outing offers therapeutic, mineral enhanced, hot spring water designed and created by our loving heavenly Father just for our enjoyment (good for your skin but I would probably not drink it). There are many pools and soak holes in and around the river bank with varied temperatures and depths. You may even find that you have a knack for developing your own pools.
Like most of God's creations, these spring and river area can be lots of fun if we treat it with the proper respect and precautions. There are several places to jump off rocks into the river as well as swimming holes. Care for your family.
At 1:30 pm we should be done with Visitor's Lunch at Eagle SDA Church. It is a 73 mile drive to the Hot Spring. 1.5 hours.
Driving directions: Take State Street/Hwy 44 East to Hwy 55 and turn left/North. Go North on Hwy 55 for 33.6 miles to Banks and turn right onto Banks Lowman Road. Drive 33.3 miles to the Hwy 21 junction at Lowman and turn left. Drive 4.3 miles and park on the North side of the river near the bridge at Kirkham Hot Springs. (No fee parking on north side of river) Walk across the bridge and to the right. Hint: Drivers may choose to drop off passengers at the spring and then go park.

A Return Visit to Bonneville Hot Springs in Idaho
The best time IMHO to visit Bonneville Hot Springs is when the Boise National Forest campground of the same name is closed. A short hike along the river leads to a great reward.

The Kirkham Campground on the Boise National Forest in Idaho
The Kirkham Campground within the Lowman Ranger District of the Boise National Forest has 16 sites located on the South Fork Payette River's edge. Visitors enjoy soaking in the popular Kirkham Hot Springs and exploring the nearby scenic Kirkham Ridge Trail. A trail with staircases leads down to the soaking pools and small steaming waterfalls. The campground was burned over in the late 1980's by the intense Lowman wildfire, so only a few Ponderosa pines are scattered throughout the sites providing partial shade. The campground contains single use campsites and one double site, all of which are accessible. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and campfire ring with grill. Some have small picnic shelters for shade.
Vault toilets, drinking water and trash collection are provided. A campground host is on-site and the roads and parking spurs are paved. Reservations for the Kirkham Campground are available through the recreation.gov website or by calling 1-877-444-6777. Further information is available by calling the Forest Service at 208-373-4007.
