Driving the Kirkstone Pass | Lake District | UK Scenic Drives
Join Towels Travels as we drive The Kirkstone Pass which links Lake Windermere to Ullswater. The pass takes you to a height of around 450 metres as it winds through a caverns mountainside. The Lake District is located in the UK in Cumbria and can easily be accessed by car and some rail connections.

My first venture to the Lake District by motorcycle and an excellent ride along the Kirkstone pass from Windermere to Penrith via Ullswater.

Starting from Patterdale up Kirkstone Pass, finishing at Troutbeck.
Kirkstone Pass with an altitude of 1,489 feet is the Lake District’s highest pass that is open to motor traffic. It connects Ambleside in the Rothay Valley to Patterdale in the Ullswater valley – the A592 road. There is another route from Troutbeck, which joins the Ambleside road at the Kirkstone Pass Inn.
In places, the gradient is 1 in 4. Brothers Water provides a picturesque view on the descent to Patterdale.
The Kirkstone Pass Inn stands close to the summit of the pass. Formerly an important coaching inn, it now caters primarily for tourists. It is the third highest public house in England.

We are now in the Lake District and we head to Aire Force falls but we need to drive down the Kirkstone Pass in Herman. The Kirkstone Pass is a beautiful but narrow road open to any vehicle including trucks and coaches

Britain's two most outrageous roads - Wrynose Pass & Hardknott Pass - Lake District
19th August 2017. Driving westwards through Wrynose Pass & Hardknott Pass. The uphill gradients from an east to west route seem less than a drive heading eastwards.
