Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri - Deadly Japanese Festival
Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri is a Japanese festival where they pulled wooden cart floats at high speeds thru the streets of Kishiwada sometimes with fatalities. It's a 300-year old festival to pray for good harvests. The floats if you can see them as they speed by have some intricate carvings of creatures and samurai locked in battle. It's a festival to die for quite literally.

Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri・岸和田だんじり祭り・Festival Kishiwada Osaka Japan
Kishiwada Danjiri Festival is one of the most famous and thrilling festival in Japan. It take place south of Osaka in September and October. The festival is actually divided into two, the first one is held in September, meanwhile the second one is held in October, which is less famous and smaller but involves more Danjiri. The towns between the Nankai line and the mountains hold their own Danjiri Festivals in October.
The main event of Kishiwada Danjiri Festival is the dashing of the mikoshi, or portable shrine, on a 4-ton wooden cart the wheels of which are called Danjiri and which is pulled by 500 to 1000 men, through the streets of Kishiwada. When the mikoshi turns the corner at full speed, it is a most powerful and exciting scene to watch.

Danjiri Festival 2007 - Danjiri Pull
Taken from the Kishiwada City Homepage : The citizens of Kishiwada are proud to hail the Danjiri Matsuri of Kishiwada as the greatest of its kind in Japan. Townspeople, from the youngest to the oldest, take part in the festival with duties allotted to them according to age, and with each danjiri team organized and managed by a particular Cho,(an area within the community covering a certain number of blocks). Few examples of traditional cultural festivals of this size and of this degree of organized participation exist in Japan today.
Each float is hand-made, entirely of zelkova wood. It weighs about 4 tons, is 3.8 meters high, 4 meters long and 2.5 meters wide. The draw-rope is from 100 to 200 meters in length and is pulled by as many as 500 to 1000 people

???? About Me ????
My name is Dan and I live in Japan. Smash the two words together and you end up with JaDan. I started the JaDan - Dan in Japan channel when I moved to Japan in 2016. I am a 30 something Yorkshire lad who was born and raised in Sheffield, which is deep in the heart of the UK. I moved to Japan in April 2016 to pursue a new career teaching English in a far off land. I am what some people would consider a nerd as I have a love for gaming, comic books and technology but I also love photography, sightseeing, meeting new people, experiencing new cultures and punk music.
