The Search for Wolves in Maine
The Maine Wolf Coalition is undertaking a citizen science project to look for wolves in Maine. We will be covering an area of some 5,000 square miles in northern Maine collecting canid scat for DNA analysis. Wolves live in Canada just seventy five miles from the Maine border and given the availability of prey and habitat in Maine, the science tells us they are here as well. No less than nine wolves have been killed south of the St. Lawrence River since 1993. The state and federal governments say that there are no wolves in Maine. We plan on proving them wrong.
