Airboat ride at Wild Florida
Airboat ride @ Wild Florida in Kenansville FL @ Cypress Lake.
Wild Florida 1-hour Airboat Tour
Wind noise so beware if you're wearing headphones.
This is the hour-long airboat tour at WIld Florida in Kenansville, Florida. They are located on Cypress Lake and there is also a small but neat zoo with (you guessed it) alligators and some other unique animals. I enjoyed the airboat tour but mainly because of the airboat part. We saw a baby gator at one point and two adults but only caught glimpses of them.
From WIld Florida's Website:
A visit into the Florida Everglades will be the most wild adventure you experience in Central Florida. The Everglades start here!
Wild Florida Airboats and Gator Park is more than just an airboat tour. We’ve got a Gator and Wildlife Park, the Chomp House Grill, and more ferocious fun in the Middle of Nowhere! We’re just a 45 minute drive from Orlando’s major theme parks.
Experience a part of Florida that hasn’t changed much from when early pioneers arrived in covered wagons in the 1800s. Climb aboard a U.S. Coast Guard certified airboat and catch a glimpse of alligators, eagles, turkeys, wild boars, roseate spoonbills, and other native creatures. Or stroll through our Gator and Wildlife Park where you can see lemurs, sloths, zebras, and other animals native to South America, Africa, and Australia.
Wild Florida is a feast for the eyes and the soul, but we haven’t forgotten about your stomach. The Chomp House Grill turns out some of the best barbecue around, and our Swamp Slushy – a frozen blend of mango, orange, and passionfruit – is reason enough to visit the Middle of Nowhere.
Early morning, afternoon, at sunset, or at night, the experience is different all the time. A visit to Wild Florida might be the best time you’ve ever had when it comes to Orlando airboat tours!

Mannfield (Florida) Ghost Town
This area of Withlacoochee State Forest was once part of a town called Mannfield. It was settled in 1884 by early pioneer, Austin Mann who in addition to citrus was active in the raising of cattle and sheep. Mann formed a company to dig and operate canals on the east side of the county. He was also active in politics and as the area’s State Senator Mann guided through Legislature the bill that created Citrus as a county in 1887. He selected Mannfield as the first county Seat. In 1887 Hernando county was divided into Pasco and Citrus counties. Mannfield became the county seat of citrus. It once had a hotel, church, school, three general stores, a sawmill and a newspaper. In 1893 the railroad came through the county and bypassed Mannfield in favor of Inverness. Below are some links on the history of the area. It is prohibited and illegal to remove artifacts or metal detect in this forest. Please be respectful of the history that remains, thank you for watching!

The Legend of Dead River
Florida is known for its beaches and theme parks, but there's another side of Florida you probably didn't know about.
Before Florida was known as one of the U.S.'s top tourist destinations, it used to be one of the top states in beef production. Unlike ranching today, the ranchers back then didn't have the convenience of modern technology and Google Maps to help guide them through the acres of swamp and farmland when moving their herds across the state.
The story – legend, rather – goes something like this...
It's believed that in 1913, two cowboys rode into one of the rivers that feeds into Lake Cypress to look for their two cracker cows that had gone missing. They never returned, and legend has it that a 20-foot alligator attacked and killed them during their search.
In this video, Kenny tells the tragic tale of these two cowboys right at the spot where they disappeared! To read more about these two cowboys, check out our blog on the legend of Dead River:
