Kitakami, Japan - Kitakami Station (2019)
Kitakami Station (北上駅 Kitakami-eki) is a railway station in the city of Kitakami, Iwate, Japan, operated by the East Japan Railway Company (JR East), with a freight terminal operated by the Japan Freight Railway Company (JR Freight).
Kitakami Station is served by the Tōhoku Shinkansen high-speed line from Tokyo to Shin-Aomori, and also by local services on the Tōhoku Main Line and Kitakami Line. It is located 487.5 kilometers from the starting point of the Tōhoku Main Line at Tokyo Station[1] and is also a terminus for the Kitakami Line.

The local portion of Kitakami Station has an island platform and a single side platform. However, the side platform is cut, forming a partial bay platform, so that the platform effectively serves two tracks. The Tōhoku Shinkansen portion of the station has an island platform and a single side platform serving three tracks. All of the platforms are elevated. The station has a Midori no Madoguchi staffed ticket office.

Hey gang, Iwate Swan is back for another week of adventures. This time, I ventured out to Kitakami which is the second largest city in Iwate (just behind Morioka in population, with Hanamaki in third place). My mission was to find the Toys R Us, in which there might be one or two in the whole of Iwate. Would some directions from local school girls help me or lead me in the wrong direction? 横手駅は、焼きそばとかまくらで有名な秋田県横手市にあるJR奥羽本線・北上線の駅。一日平均乗車人員は1,427人（2010年）の横手市の中心駅です。そんな横手駅で、駅周辺や構内、列車の発着風景を撮影してみました。
Yokote station, located at Yokote City in Akita Prefecture, Japan, is a station of JR Ou main line and Kitakami line. Yokote City is famous for Yokote yakisoba (fried noodle) and kamakura (snow hut) festival in every February. I took this movie of station, vicinity, and trains at Yokote station.

Morioka, Japan - Morioka Station (2019)
Morioka Station (盛岡駅 Morioka-eki) is a railway station in the city Morioka, Iwate Prefecture, Japan operated by JR East.
Morioka Station is a major junction station, and is served by both the Tōhoku Shinkansen and the Akita Shinkansen. It is located 535.3 km from Tokyo Station. Local JR East services are provided by the Tohoku Main Line, Tazawako Line and Yamada Line, all of which terminate at Morioka Station. The station is also the southern terminus of the third-sector Iwate Ginga Railway Line.
The station has three elevated island platforms for Shinkansen services, and four island platforms for local services. The station has a Midori no Madoguchi staffed ticket office.

【駅探訪No.35】JR大湊線 大湊駅にて(At Ominato Station on the JR Ominato Line)
大湊駅は、青森県むつ市にあるJR大湊線の終着駅です。2002年には、「下北観光の拠点として恐山や寒立馬の尻屋岬、ニホンザル生息のむつ市脇野沢への発着駅」として、東北の駅百選に選定されました。そんな大湊駅で、駅周辺や構内、列車の発着風景を撮影してみました。
Ominato station, located at Mutsu City in Aomori Prefecture, Japan, is a terminal of JR Ominato line. In 2002, Ominato station was selected one of the best 100 stations in Tohoku district as a base station for sight-seeing around the Shimokita Peninsula, Mt. Osore, the Cape Shiriyazaki known for horses, and Wakinosawa known for Japanese monkey. I took this movie of station, vicinity, and trains at Ominato station.

【English】All About Hiraizumi #1 －The Birth of Hiraizumi－
The first of the Fujiwara lords, Kiyohira, established the prosperity of the Fujiwara family.
Kiyohira was born in 1056. He lost his father in the Former Nine Years' War then in the Latter Three Years' War, when he fought against his half-brother, he lost his wife and children.
Having survived the vortex of war, Kiyohira finally become the ruler of Oshu, northeastern Japan. He developed the city of Hiraizumi, which was designed to be the capital of a truly peaceful country.
There are thought to be several reasons why Kiyohira chose Hiraizumi as the capital. Firstly, Hiraizumi was geographically very similar to Kyoto. Secondly it was a strategic point of water and land transport. Thirdly, the land on the eastern side of the Kitakami River, opposite Hiraizumi, was a highly productive area.
Kiyohira's territory extended from the Shirakawa Barrier in the South to Sotogahama in the north. Hiraizumi was right in the center.
To create a peaceful country, Kiyohira first restored the highway running south to north, and then built a pagoda in Hiraizumi.
This was the beginning of Kanzan Chuson-ji.
Chuson-ji is said to have been founded by Jikaku-daishi in 850. Under Kiyohira the temple expanded as he developed Hiraizumi as the capital of Oshu in the late 11th century.
In its heyday there were 40 temple buildings and 300 priests' temple quarters.
Most of the temple buildings were destroyed by fires in medieval times. Konjikido is the only building to survive intact as evidence of how Hiraizumi looked in the past.
