The North Fox Farm ~ Kitami Kitakitsune Bokujou
A short compilation of my visit to Kitami Kitakitsune Bokujou, the North Fox Farm (which is actually more like an open enclosure), located in the heart of Hokkaido, west of Kitami, on 30-Jun-2018.
This place is a lot more relaxed than Zao Kitsune Mura. The foxes have access to food whenever they want, and the place is not quite as crowded. Also, there is a trio of Tanukis around, who get along with the foxes... more or less. =^,~'=

A quartet of Tanukis living the lazy life at Kitami Kitakitsune Bokujou, getting along with the foxes there... more or less.
Foxes and Tanukis are the primary cute tricksters of Japanese mythology, and are so closely related that there is even a two-sylable word for Foxes and Tanukis: Kori (狐狸).
Unlike the more energetic Foxes, the Tanukis are quite easygoing and lazy, their lifestyle akin to badgers. Despite their name, they are actually closer related to true foxes (genus Vulpes) than to dogs, or even raccoons, their full scientific classification being: Animalia → Chordata → Mammalia → Carnivora → Canidae → Vulpini → Nyctereutes Procyonoides Viverrinus

This aquarium provides visitors with opportunities to see fish swimming under the frozen surface of a river – a sight rarely seen anywhere in the world. Hokkaido’s unspoiled environment provides conditions in which fish can engage in their natural behavior.

東藻琴乳酪館（日文：ひがしもこと乳酪館）是位於日本北海道大空町東藻琴地區的觀光工廠，展示製作乳酪的工藝流程及銷售相關產品。東藻琴是乳牛比人口多的奶酪畜牧業勝產地，以奶酪之鄉聞名。從鄂霍次克吹來的寒風，孕育出適合奶酪畜牧業及奶酪製造的風土。乳酪館自1996年10月開始營業，現由「一般財團法人女滿別產業開發公社」負責經營。由於酪農業為東藻琴地區的主要產業，1979年起，當地為處裡生產過剩的牛乳，利用北海道東藻琴高等學校的食品實習室開始研究如何生產乳酪，1980年利用空置的村營住宅並購入二手機械設備，開始生產乳酪。最出生產的乳酪被命名為「東藻琴天然白乳酪」（日文原名：ナチュラルチーズひがしもことホワイト，為英文Natural cheese Higashimokoto White的發音）。1981年，東藻琴的乳酪開始對外銷售，並被北海道列為「經濟振興對策事業」。1982年進一步成立「東藻琴乳製品加工研究所」，致力於發展起司為當地特產，並帶動當地酪農業的發展。1996年再於研究所旁建立了東藻琴乳酪館。東藻琴乳酪館是參觀以當地產鮮奶為原料開發及製造、銷售乳製品，以及體驗奶油製作的地方。東藻琴村已合併到大空町的轄區內。此設施繼續使用過去的村名。
入夜的北見市區，空氣裡瀰漫著燒肉氣味，那不是可以佯裝沒聞到的氣味，它穿梭在整個城市裡，每經過一個街角路口，「燒肉」二字便會自跳入眼中。說北見是全北海道燒肉最密集的城市，果然不假。這種體驗不需旅遊書指引，直接到訪最清楚明瞭。近13萬人口的城市，就有約60間燒肉店。據說是因為北見是畜牧業產地，取得的生肉品質比起他處更新鮮便宜，再加上此處同時也盛產洋蔥。兩相搭配，燒肉當然是最佳的品嘗方式。若跟北海道人提到北見，燒肉絕對是這個城市的代表名詞。位在2樓的「四條ホルモン」是北見的代表店家之一。創立於1977年，經過重新裝潢的店內空間明亮寬敞，排煙極佳是吸引在地人到訪的原因之一，燒肉品項也很豐富，雞翼、豬五花豚足、和牛應有盡有，最特別的就是「豚足」了。豚足就是我們熟悉的豬腳，幾塊已經用滾水燙過的豬腳上桌，放上爐火炭烤，等到表皮酥膨，散發些微焦香時便可品嘗，沾上特製醬入口，彈牙的豬腳，豬皮香脆、肉質軟嫩，超彈卻不膩口，叫人回味。

Stopped over at Kitami and found this place called Kita Kitsune Bokujo. Its a tourist spot where you can touch, pet, and feed these foxes. But there's this particular fox which doesn't seem to like living in captivity.
