NDIS Provider Story: Ariana steps into graduation
So the Pathways College is a very specific college built for young people with disabilities.
The purpose of this is to have them come in and live in an environment that's as well-replicated to living in the real world.
It's just such a wonderful environment.
It's liberating for them, but it's also very inclusive with the community outside Caloundra and the community here has been amazing with their support of STEPS.
They're teaching us great things, like doing public transport, grocery shopping, and doing budgeting.
And also cleaning, cooking. It's important to me because I want to be independent out in the community and get a job.
Part of our program, students go out into the work force and do a work placement.
And Ari was able to get up in the morning, organise her clothes, get ready for the workday,catch a public bus by herself,get to work, come back to work by herself.
Her manager had nothing but praise to say about Ari.
Because we knew the goals that Ariana wanted to achieve with living independently, being self-sufficient in her own life, and working part-time in the community.
It was very easy for us to put it to paper and set the goals for her to get the funding to enable her to do it.
Today's a really special day.
We're having our graduation ceremony so, a few of the students are coming up for graduation.
And it's a really exciting, but I think will be highly emotional day, as well.
These students have been here since the beginning.
You know, on the fourth of May in 2017 these are the group that came in.
Watching those particular students progress has been absolutely amazing.
So when they started here, you know,they didn't have the same level of confidence.
But now, you know, they're solving their own problems,making their own decisions, having a lot more control and choice in their life decisions.
They've done really well and we're really proud of them.

This included included a 2 storey addition to the side of the house, with new decks, kitchen and bathrooms. The house was retiled and repainted through out to complete this total transformation into a contemporary home.
