KLAWERVLEI STUD CHAMPIONS 2017
Klawervlei Stud is a thoroughbred breeding enterprise conducted from the farm Wagenboomheuel on the banks of the Breede river east of Bonnievale, a village in the BAR valley of the Western Cape. This area has traditionally been associated with the breeding of high quality and sound race horses. Klawervlei is conducted through a corporate entity owned by John Koster and a syndicate of businessmen. The Stud farm is managed by John, a seasoned equine stock-man hailing from a family that has been engaged in thoroughbred breeding for generations.
History
Mr Ralph Koster’s Klavervlei Stud was founded twenty-three years ago and today many of the best known racing in South Africa come from it. Klavervlei has produced a steady stream of classic and top-class handicap horses during recent years. From Klavervlei came such as South Africa’s champion of his day, Jerez, Majorca greatest filly of her time and second in her generation only to Colorado King, Casanova winner of the Guineas and Derby in Natal, Polar Bear winner of the Metropolitan Handicap, Vaso winner of the first Cape Merchants Cup and the sprinting classic the Diadem Plate, the good filly Rosinante, and Savonarola, winner of the Cape Mellow-wood Guineas and the Natal Guineas and second in his generation only to Sea Cottage in this year of grace.
Klavervlei is sited high in the Nieuevelt Mountains 25 miles to the north of Beaufort West and standing above 5,000 feet. The farms which comprise the stud extend to over 40,000 morgen and the stud lies in a valley irrigated from the Zack River.

The Best kept secret of western cape, Cape town // vlog
In my travels I decided to take you along with me and vlog it and to check out the best kept secret of the western cape, Cape town. Another Cape Town vlog.
Definitely a place to visit in Cape Town. Add it to your visit to Cape Town.
I got some drone camera views of this amazing place. Riebeek-Kasteel is one of the oldest towns in South Africa, situated at 80 km north-east of Cape Town in The Riebeek Valley together with its sister town Riebeek West. During 1661 Commander Jan van Riebeeck initiated an inland discovery expedition under the leadership of Pieter Cruythoff. They set off in the direction of Paardeberg and on 3 February 1661 they ascended a lonely mountain and came upon the fertile vista of the Riebeek Valley.
They named it Riebeek Kasteel, in honor of the Commander. In the 19th century both Jan Smuts and Daniel Malan were born on the outskirts of neighbouring Riebeek West, both later becoming prime ministers of the country.
Subsequently farmers established themselves in the valley and during 1900 the town was laid out in and around its existing church and its neighbor The Royal Hotel, the oldest hotel of South Africa. The town eventually developed and today it houses more or less 2700 residents including some of South Africa’s most famous painters attracted by the picturesque surroundings of the valley and Riebeek Kasteel is especially popular for that aesthetic beauty and rural atmosphere.
The town also serves as a satellite, a residential settlement for Paarl, Malmesbury and even the Metropole area. Often Riebeek Kasteel is referred as “the best kept secret of the Western Cape” and Franschhoek 15 years ago
In 2009 Riebeek Kasteel was chosen one of the three most beautiful towns of the Western Cape by the newspaper Rapport. The other two finalists were Stellenbosch and Clanwilliam.

Outeniqua Moon Percheron Stud
Outeniqua Moon Percheron Stud is perfect for kids: my 5-year-old grandson was in heaven. Feeding the horses, going on a cart ride, and even getting a chance to ride good, gentle, Bobby.
Percherons are the smallest of the work horses, and at one time they were plentiful in South Africa. Sadly, the motor car put them out of work, and it's only due to the dedication of people like Pete and Christine Watt that they're on the increase again.
Christine is a huge advocate for horses in general, and Percherons in particular. She spent a lot of time with us explaining why the breed is so important. Indeed, I would say that it has a future, since it is a willing worker and it's incredibly strong: in time, we'll have to go back to animal-drawn farming techniques, especially on organic farms.
It was an honour to spend time with the Watts and their animals (they've got dogs, cats, too -- this is, after all, a working farm).
The farm's situated at Ruiterbos on the R328 between Oudtshoorn and Mossel Bay on the Garden Route of South Africa's Western Cape Province, and there's a lot to do in the area -- but we only moved out of the gate to go to the general dealer's to buy sweets. For the rest, we lazed around the 25 metre lap pool, enjoyed our self-catering suites, and talked to the horses.
It was a fantastically relaxing getaway.

WATCH: This race horse just sold for a cool R4 million
217 of South Africa’s elite bred yearlings, young race horses that have yet to turn 2 and the next generation of racing horses, went under the gavel at a R83 million auction.
This year’s top seller was an unnamed filly that sold for R4 million from the Klawervlei Stud farm located in Breede River outside Bonnievale, Western Cape. She is the offspring of a top race winner sire Captain Al and dam Pagan Princess. Still not enough to break the record sale of R6 million. Subscribe to News24:
