112km from Kota Kinabalu City leads you to the pristine Klias wetlands. Mosey on your way down Klias River through spectacular vistas on an open boat in search of the endemic proboscis monkeys, long tailed, macaques, the rare silver languor and other wildlife along the river bank.
Get those camera, binoculars on stand-by and keep your eyes peeled for the shy creatures in between the branches.
As dusk settles in with a sunset, enjoy the sights and sounds in a natural setting as you have a sumptuous village style dinner. Show’s not over yet though, there is one more trip through the mangrove swamp, but this time it is graced by the secret rhythm of fireflies and their flickering lights.
However, as much as we hate to disappoint, we are entering a natural habitat where sightings are common, but it is NOT GUARANTEED.

Proboscis Monkeys
================
Proboscis monkeys are endangered mammals that are endemic to Borneo. Their characteristics are their fleshy, pendulous noses used to attract mates, big bellies and their light golden brown fur coats for the adults. They live in organized harem groups consisting of a dominant male and two to seven females and their offspring. They have evolved webbed feet and hands to help them outpace the crocodiles, one of their main predators. Proboscis monkeys survive mainly on a diet of leaves, seeds, and unripe fruits but will occasionally consume insects as well. The only fruit they will eat is unripe fruits as the sugars in ripe fruits can ferment in their stomachs and cause fatal bloating.
Proboscis monkeys (Nasalis larvatus) endemic to Borneo, is nicknamed “Monyet Belanda” or Dutchman by the locals due to its large body size, big round pot bellies and striking colours fur coat. But what makes them famous is the huge long nose and a permanently erect bright red penis seen in mature males. The reason is unknown for this permanent erection but with between 20 to 24 females proboscis in a male's harem, we guess the alpha male needs to.

The tour company Only In Borneo (oibtours.com) turns a 80-feet wooden fishing boat into a luxury double-deck boat (named Kunang-Kunang, means Firefly) for river cruise on Garama-Klias River in Sabah, Malaysia.
Tourists can enjoy watching wildlife such as Borneo proboscis monkey & flying fox, wetland ecology (mangrove swamp) and carry out other activities such as fishing & buffet. The highlight is the firefly Christmas tree at night. This boat can accommodate 50 to 60 guests, great for company function & party!

Weston is located southwest of Kota Kinabalu, capital of Sabah and could be reached within 2 hours car ride!
Weston is treasured with a wide variety of wildlife, such as Borneo Proboscis Monkeys, Silver Leaf Monkeys, Long-Tail Macaque, birds, snakes, and many more. It also has a variety of aquamarines, such as the mudskipper fish, otters, crocodiles and Weston Big River Shrimp.
Borneo Proboscis Monkey in Weston is densely populated yet is protected animal; tourists can watch closely the monkeys sitting on top of the Mangrove Trees while on the river cruise boat. Along the riverside, tourists could view the local fishermen River Man lifestyle, and could buy the Weston Big River Prawn that caught freshly in Weston Jaafar River Lodge. The meats of river prawns are very fresh and delicious! Before dinner, tourists will enjoy watching the spectacular view of the “Reddish Fire Sunset”.
For “Adrenaline Tourists”, they can walk in the middle of the river and taking remarkable sunset photo, which is astonishing (subjective to weather). After the sunset, hundreds of the Egrets will fly all the way to a Mangrove Tree, which is an astonishing view! After dinner, tourists whom are photogenic could take the fireflies photo at the only special spot in the restaurant!
