Heroes - Knights of Columbus
Thanks to the efforts of Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary's Church in New Haven and some of his parishioners, the Connecticut state legislature on March 29, 1882, officially chartered the Knights of Columbus as a fraternal benefit society. The Order is still true to its founding principles of charity, unity and fraternity.
The Knights was formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works.
The history of the Order shows how the foresight of Father Michael J. McGivney, whose cause for sainthood is being investigated by the Vatican, brought about what has become the world's foremost Catholic fraternal benefit society. The Order has helped families obtain economic security and stability through its life insurance, annuity and long-term care programs, and has contributed time and energy worldwide to service in communities.
The Knights of Columbus has grown from several members in one council to more than 14,000 councils and 1.8 million members throughout the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, Poland, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Cuba, Guatemala, Guam and Saipan.

Saint John Paul II on the Knights of Columbus
The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic fraternal service organization. Founded in the United States in 1882, it is named in honor of Christopher Columbus. There are more than 1.8 million members in 15,000 councils, with nearly 200 councils on college campuses. Membership is limited to practical Catholic men aged 18 or older. Councils have been chartered in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Guatemala, Panama, Dominican Republic, the Philippines, Guam, Spain, Japan, Cuba, and most recently in Poland. The Knights' official junior organization, the Columbian Squires, has over 5,000 Circles. All the Order's ceremonials and business meetings are restricted to members, though all other events are open to the public. A promise not to reveal any details of the ceremonials except to an equally qualified Knight is required to ensure their impact and meaning for new members; an additional clause subordinates the promise to that Knight's civil and religious duties.
In the 2009 fraternal year, the Order gave over US$151 million directly to charity (over $1.367 billion in charitable contributions in the last 10 years) and performed over 69 million man-hours of voluntary service. Over 413,000 pints of blood were donated. For their support for the Church and local communities, as well as for their philanthropic efforts, the Order often refers to itself as the strong right arm of the Church.[3] The Order's insurance program has more than $79 billion of life insurance policies in force, backed up by $15.5 billion in assets, and holds the highest insurance ratings given by A. M. Best, Standard & Poor's, and the Insurance Marketplace Standards Association. kofc.org

KC Relics Of The Passion Tour St Josephs Grafton, WI, September 14, 2017
Knights Of Columbus Relics Of The Passion Tour St. Joseph Parish, Grafton, Wisconsin September 14, 2017
The Relics of the Passion is the signature collection of the Apostolate for Holy Relics. Reviewed and authenticated by Church authorities prior to their first public tour in 2007, the Relics of the Passion have been venerated in more than 20 dioceses in the United States, Guam, and the Philippines, where more than a million people came to see and venerate the rare relics. Although the presentation and veneration of the relics have remained the same, the supporting program that highlights the events of Our Lord's Passion has been gradually enhanced over the years and now provides for a one-hour meditative program with supporting musical pieces. Having a number of significant holy relics in one place is relatively rare and does not often take place outside the Holy Land or Rome. The faithful have continually exhibited a significant level of participation and have conveyed sincere words of appreciation for the positive spiritual experience they have had during and after attending our programs.
The Relics of the Passion presentation is organized into a one-hour meditative program with supporting musical pieces that serve as a guide to help you accompany Jesus through His suffering during the Passion. The program ends with an opportunity for the personal veneration of the relics.
The collection includes 8 rare holy relics that would only be seen in collections generally found in Rome or the Holy Land. Included are:
• The relic of the True Cross
• A piece of stone from the table or room where the Last Supper was held
• A piece of the Column of Flagellation
• A piece of the Crown of Thorns
• The effigy of the Veil of Veronica (touched to the original veil)
• A replica of the holy nail which contains fillings taken from the true nails that were embedded in copies to make relics of a lower class
• A piece of bone from St. Longinus, the centurion that pierced the side of Jesus
• A thread from the cloth used as the wrapping for the Burial Shroud.

Nov. 26, 2017. East Rutherford KoC vs. Carlstadt Lakeland Bank finals. Last 10 minutes of the game. Unfair call by referee at around 5 min and 45 seconds against ER KoC. You be the judge. Ugh. Final score was 2-3.
