Christmas at Knightshayes in TIverton
A traditional Victorian Christmas complete with illuminations and Santa will greet visitors to Knightshayes in Tiverton this month.
Staff and volunteers have been busy preparing for the festive season, decorating each room for a cosy experience in the style of how former residents Heathcoat Amory family would have known it.
Outside the house is transformed into a winter wonderland with terraces and pool garden twinkling in the lights.
Alice Morgan Brown, visitor experience manager at the National Trust estate said: “For the whole of December the house is open apart from Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, and the house will be decorated for a traditional Victorian Christmas as the Heathcoat-Amory family would have had it.
I think one of the highlights is certainly the library, it looks fantastic. The glitter ball in the garden is also a spectacle if you can spot it.”
Knightshayes Victorian Gothic Revival House And Gardens Mid Devon.
Knightshayes Court is a Victorian country house in Tiverton, Devon, England, designed by William Burges for the Heathcoat-Amory family. Nikolaus Pevsner describes it as an eloquent expression of High Victorian ideals in a country house of moderate size. The house is Grade I listed as of 12 May 1975.
The gardens were designed by Edward Kemp but were much simplified in the 1950s and '60s. The estate includes a rare stické court dating from 1907. Other features include the extensive topiary, specimen trees, rare shrubs and the stables and walled kitchen garden.
Knightshayes Court has been in the ownership of the National Trust since 1973 and is open to the public.

Knightshayes Court & Gardens In Devon
This video was my last from the holiday in Exmoor. I always try to capture the best in flora which I always cherish and it ended up with my visit to this magnificient place. I visited the garden in May and I wonder what a paradise it must be in the summer.
The three main areas that really captured my heart was the Knightshayes Court, the Topiary & the Woodland Gardens. You will see at 3.40 to 4.05 just a few secs into the woodland garden where I stopped filming and thought to enjoy it by myself. I cannot describe the beauty of it in words as it was purely magical.
The Trust did not allow any photography in the court. We even had to keep the cameras in our bags. The amazing furniture, the rare collections and all the other iconic pieces in the house cannot be described in words. Looking at the beauty of the place it seems logical to think that the people who lived here lived a life of royalty in much splendour.

Knightshayes Court A rich and varied history
==================================
One of the finest surviving Gothic Revival houses, built in the lush landscape of mid Devon, Knightshayes is a rare example of the work of the eccentric and inspired architect William Burges.
Built for the grandson of pioneer lace-maker John Heathcoat in 1869, the house was completed in 1874. He was a talented pioneer and the production creator of the mechanised bobbin lace making machine and owner of a lace factory in Tiverton
In 1816, he brought much growth to the impoverished town of Tiverton through the development of a successful factory. The estate remained in the family for three generations, before being handed to the National Trust in 1972.
The house is an exciting architectural experience, with extraordinary 'medieval' romantic interiors.Rich in eccentric decoration, the house has many incredible rooms to explore. Encounter the splendour of the medieval Great Hall with exquisite wooden carvings, sculpted corbels, dramatic period furniture and hand painted ceilings. Also with lavish Victorian decoration, billiard rooms, ceramics, elegant boudoir and drawing rooms all give an atmospheric insight into grand country palace.
The display enables a great insight into the fascinating life of Joyce Wethered, described by Basil Ashton Tinkler as 'one of the greatest golfers, man or woman, of all time' and last member of the family to have resided at Knightshayes.
The vast garden, which was the Heathcoat Amory family's great passion, is renowned for its rare trees, shrubs and seasonal colours.
Though a relatively new house by National Trust standards, Knightshayes still has a rich and varied history, influenced by the people who lived and worked here.

Tiverton, Devon, Snow & Winter Scenes - January 6th 2010 (1/3)
Starting off at home, brushing the snow off the bonet of my car, and seeing how the cat the likes the snow - which turned out to be not much.
Then heading through the Great Western Way Roundabout, and into Amory Park, where people are making a snowman, and kicking a football about.
Then I headed into the town centre, and Lowman Green. The statue of Edward the Peacemaker looked like he had caught a cold, and the ducks were in the snow.
Then I headed up past Castle Street and St Peter's to People's Park.

A scenic route to Knightshayes Gardens???
I've got my sat-nav set to scenic route, and this is the route it chose to take me to Knightshayes Court Gardens (near Tiverton, Devon, UK). It's just a dirt path! Though it IS very scenic. Think I may need to reprogram the sat-nav to major roads only. :))
