Mountain Biking on the Knocklofty Trails in Hobart, Tasmania
We stole a few hire bikes and a couple of riders and headed up Knock Lofty to explore a few hidden trails and the circuit single track. This area is a really short 20 minute ride from the Hobart CBD making it perfect for a lunch time or short afternoon ride.
Bikes are a Kona Process and Santa Cruz Heckler, both available as hire bikes from Cyclingo in South Hobart
Riders were Dan Booker (Kona) and Simon McLaine (Santa Cruz).

Lime Bay Reserve Mountain Bike Ride - Tasmania, Australia
Please watch in high quality 720P or 1080P.
Lime Bay Reserve is located in Tasmania on the Tasman Peninsula, approximately 90 minutes drive south of Hobart.
It is a historic heritage listed site and contains the Coal Miners heritage buildings / ruins as well as some very scenic beaches and beautiful national park.
The area contains a network of fire trails which are great for beginner to intermediate level mountain bike riders. The trails are quite sandy and slippery in some parts especially closer to the beaches.

Mountain Bike Wellington Park Hobart Tasmania
Testing out the new Garmin VIRB camera on a mountain bike trail in Wellington Park.. Having a bit of fun coming down a segment called Luge Downhill on Strava which is a nice easy slightly technical downhill run. The camera came loose a couple of time. I noticed my front wheel wasn't done up tightly and a stick got stuck in my wheel. But other than that, so much fun :) Speed, gradient %, elevation and course map are overlaid..

Day 5 Highlights 2011
The 2011 Swisse Mark Webber Tasmania Challenge reaches its conclusion in Hobart with competitors taking on a frantic final day of racing in the rolling hills and sparkling harbor of Tasmania's picturesque and cosmopolitan capital.
Australia's second oldest city, Hobart has developed over the last decade from a sleepy, pretty waterfront community to a vibrant, bustling centre that leads the country, if not the Southern Hemisphere, in art and culture.
The opening of the Henry Jones Art Hotel, a restored jam factory, in 2005 led the art revolution and the launch of Mona - the extraordinary Museum of Old and New Art -- at the start of 2011 has been described as the most significant addition to Australia's cultural landscape since the Sydney Opera House.
The day's racing, however, is all about exploring Hobart's natural beauty in the suburbs beside the Derwent River, through the city parks and in the foothills of the 1,300m-high Mount Wellington, which dominates the skyline and provides the ultimate weekend playground for locals and visitors alike.
Checkpoints will be dotted around the city with locations including Chimney Pot Hill, Knocklofty, Mount Nelson and Queens Domain on the western side and Lindisfarne, Montagu Bay and Rosny on the east. Competitors will set off from the Henry Jones Art Hotel with the task of visiting as many as possible during an allotted time.
The course highlights the city's ease of access to a range of wilderness regions, with Chimney Pot Hill, part of the Ridgeway reserve, offering an unbroken stretch of natural bush; Knocklofty a wild area of heath and open woodland leading to a 375m summit; and Mount Nelson, once the site for one of a chain of signal stations linking Hobart with Port Arthur and now a native bushland with sweeping views over Hobart and Storm Bay.
In the heart of the city, meanwhile, Queens Domain is an area of park and bush on the waterfront that preserves the last remnant of the area's original endemic grassland and has unearthed Aboriginal middens that date it back to long before European colonists arrived in 1803.
In 1860 the site was commissioned as an area that belongs to the people and was once used to house the Queens Battery, which defended the city from attack. It is now a popular place for gentle Sunday walks, a destination for sports and home to the Botanical Gardens, the Aquatic Centre and the grand Government House.
Across the water, the bays of Lindisfarne and Montagu provide access to a number of small hills around which several suburbs have developed. These were the first areas to be settled in the east of Hobart and their population boomed when the floating Hobart Bridge was built in 1943, followed by the Tasman Bridge constructed 21 years later.

Tip Top Track, South Hobart, Tasmania
This recently constructed, short, shared-use track on the slopes of South Hobart provides plenty of challenge for experienced cross-country mountain bike riders. The track grading is rated ‘Very difficult’ under the International Mountain Bicycling Association’s trail difficulty rating system due to its narrow, twisting and technically challenging route which includes two steep, paved, rock chutes.
Construction of the Tip Top Track was a collaborative effort between the City of Hobart, volunteers from the Hobart Trail Alliance and other volunteers from the local mountain bike community.
Riders are required to ride the trail downhill i.e. from west to east, due to the rock chutes. Riders must then return via the M4 fire trail as access to adjoining Cascade Brewery owned land is not provided.
