Koh Phi Phi (pronounced Pee Pee) is located about 45km East of Phuket and offers some excellent dive sites for all levels of diver. Phi Phi Islands diving day trips are available from Phuket by speedboat or slower dive boats. Phi Phi special. In many places you find shallow hard coral gardens, making Phi Phi a good spot for snorkeling as well as scuba diving. Koh Bida Nok and Koh Bida Nai, at the South end of the Phi Phi island chain are among the best sites in the region.

Koh Bida Nok & Koh Bida Nai are the two southernmost islets of the Phi Phi group of islands. Simple limestone rocks rising from the Andaman Sea some 1.5km south of Koh Phi Phi Leh, the Bida islands’ only claim to fame is the splendid diving opportunities they offer, as they do not have any landing access. Koh Bida Nok is the largest of the two, and is open to all level of diver. Divers usually enter the water on its eastern side and steadily move south around the rock. It is home to a large variety of marine life and is especially renowned for its zebra sharks and stingrays lying on the sand. The northern side of Koh Bida Nok features great wall diving opportunities as well as a cave that can be explored only by those who have the experience and knowledge in cave diving techniques.

Thai women on Ko Phi Phi Don Island scared by snake
The shocking TRUTH about Koh Phi Phi in Thailand ???????????? Travel video ✈????????????
The Phi Phi Islands (Thai: หมู่เกาะพีพี, (pronounced ‘Pee Pee’) are an island group in Thailand, between the large island of Phuket and the Straits of Malacca coast of Thailand. The islands are administratively part of Krabi Province. Ko Phi Phi Don (Thai: เกาะพีพีดอน; RTGS: ko phiphi don) (ko Thai: เกาะ 'island') is the largest and most populated island of the group, although the beaches of the second largest island, Ko Phi Phi Le (Thai: เกาะพีพีเล; RTGS: ko phiphi le) are visited by many people as well. The rest of the islands in the group, including Bida Nok, Bida Nai, and Bamboo Island (Ko Mai Phai), are not much more than large limestone rocks jutting out of the sea. The islands are reachable by speedboats or long-tail boats most often from Krabi town or from piers in Phuket Province.
Phi Phi Don was initially populated by Muslim fishermen during the late-1940s, and later became a coconut plantation. The resident Thai population of Phi Phi Don remains more than 80 percent Muslim. The actual population however—if counting transient workers—is more Buddhist than Muslim. The resident population is between 2,000 and 3,000 people (2013).
The islands came to worldwide prominence when Ko Phi Phi Le was used as a location for the 2000 British-American film The Beach. This attracted criticism, with claims that the film company had damaged the island's environment, as the producers bulldozed beach areas and planted palm trees to make it more resemble descriptions in the book, an accusation the film's makers contest. An increase in tourism was attributed to the film's release, which resulted in increased environmental degradation. Phi Phi Le is home to the Viking Cave, where there is a thriving industry harvesting edible bird's nests.
Ko Phi Phi was devastated by the Indian Ocean tsunami of December 2004, when nearly all of the island's infrastructure was destroyed.

Return to Phi Phi Islands in Thailand

MONKEY BEACH ON PHI PHI ISLAND, CHEEKY MONKEYS ON MONKEY BEACH, PHI PHI ISLAND, THAILAND TRAVEL
MONKEY BEACH ON PHI PHI ISLAND, CHEEKY MONKEYS ON MONKEY BEACH, THAILAND TRAVEL,The Phi Phi islands, an archipelago of 6 islands in Krabi Province in southern Thailand, have a deserved reputation for beauty and the islands have a laid-back relaxed atmosphere without the hustle and bustle of Bangkok or the larger tourist towns. If you want to stay you‘ll need to find accommodation on Koh Phi Phi Don – the largest island in the chain and the only one inhabited. It‘s where the guesthouses, hotels, dorms and nightlife are situated. Although developed, it‘s not huge, so numbers are limited, and prices more expensive than other parts of Thailand.
Of the other islands:
Koh Phi Phi Leh to the south of Phi Phi Don is the most famous; because it‘s the place they filmed “The Beach“. The island‘s Maya Bay is the epitome of a remote Thai island beach. But it isn‘t deserted. If you want to enjoy it in solitude get there as early as possible because by 9am the day-trip boats start arriving from Phuket.
Koh Mai Phai or Bamboo Island to the north of Phi Phi Don has good beaches.
Koh Yung has a stone beach and a sandy beach.
Bida Nok and Bida Nai are basically limestone karsts that rise up out of the ocean with sheer cliff walls. Spectacular. The islands have a laid-back relaxed atmosphere without the hustle and bustle of Bangkok or the larger tourist towns.
The scourge of the SE Asia traveller – the motor scooter – is not a problem here. On the only inhabited island, Koh Phi Phi Don, there are no cars, no motorbikes. Everyone travels on foot or by bicycle. Everything is a 10-minute walk away. This makes it possibly one of the safest places in Thailand.
If you‘re having a party on a beach, the skipper of the boat that brought you shouldn‘t be drinking cold beers too. Ask him not to.
As in many spots popular with young travellers in Thailand the bars sell bucket drinks. What's a bucket drink and why are they so dangerous? Some visitors have claimed they were robbed after their bucket drinks were spiked – without sensing the inherent silliness of the sentence they just uttered. You just drank enough alcohol to sink a battleship! Taking your watch and wallet from your comatose body was child‘s play. Ferry Tickets
The ferry terminals (piers) in Phuket and Krabi are packed with touts offering to get you a good deal on the ticket price. It‘s certainly a good deal for them, they‘ll add about 50% to the price you can get by walking a few metres to the official booking office/table.
Hotel Transfers
If you‘re staying in a hotel on Phi Phi Don your luggage transfer (a guy with a wheelbarrow) to the hotel is free, but the return trip isn‘t.
Pricey Restaurants
All food is transported to the island, so it‘s expensive and the range is limited. Don‘t expect fine dining. Don‘t expect anything better than average.
Tour Packages
Most complaints, often labeled scams, result from packaged tours or day-trips to the islands: buffet lunches that don‘t happen, promised snorkeling expeditions which are cancelled etc etc. Is it a scam, or just poor service and bad organisation? Before you choose a tour provider ask around. Go a day early and talk to the people getting off the boats about the level of service and pick one that most people recommend.
Koh Phi Phi - Most Beautiful Koh Phi Phi
Koh Phi Phi
One of the most unique and attractive clusters of islands in the world, Koh Phi Phi is an idyllic island retreat that features a number of beaches that feature a variety of accommodation options and many outdoor activities.Koh Phi Phi is the collective name for a small archipelago in Krabi Province just an hour boat ride from Phuket. The waters surrounding the Phi Phi Islands are filled with exotic marine life, including docile leopard sharks, and snorkeling and diving day trips rival lounging on the beach as top activities on Koh Phi Phi.Koh Phi Phi also features a vibrant nightlife, with Tonsai Beach containing dozens of beach bars and restaurants and lively Tonsai Village consisting of a maze of shops, bars, and restaurants. Smaller beaches around the island are alternatively ideal for honeymooners, families, those on a budget, and those looking for the ultimate luxury resort retreat.

Phi Phi Lee also houses the Viking Cave, where there is a thriving industry harvesting edible bird's nest. Ko Phi Phi Lee is the second largest island of the archipelago, the largest one being Ko Phi Phi Don. The island consists of a ring of steep limestone hills surrounding two shallow bays, Maya Bay and Loh Samah. Maya Bay cannot be accessed directly from the sea via boat, due to shallow waters and coral. Therefore, boats must anchor at the deeper Loh Samah, requiring people to walk through a short section of rocks and jungle to reach Maya Bay itself. There is also one large shallow fjord like inlet called Pi Ley with a small coral reef at the entrance.
Diving in Thailand, Phi Phi Islands (Bida Nok, Viking, Kled Gaeow, Palaya)
After having got my Open Water Certification, I happened to go to Thailand for a vacation. While there, it was suggested to me that I check out the diving in Thailand since it’s supposed to be good. The key recommendation was that I go to the Phi Phi Islands and check out the diving there.
After some research, I found a dive centre on Phi Phi that seemed to have great reviews. The day I arrived on the Island, I went to the dive centre and registered for the next day’s dives. I was diving around Phi Phi for two days and did a total of 5 dives, two dives on the first day and three dives on the second day. During the five dives, we visited four different dive sites.
The first site was Koh Bida Nok. The second site was Palaya Caves where I went diving on both the first and the second days. The third site was the Kled Gaeow wreck, which is an old navy ship that was sunk in the area and is now home to a lot of marine life. After the wreck dive, we went to another site called Viking.
During the dives, we saw a lot of yellow snappers, a banded sea snake, a turtle, pufferfish, grey tip reef sharks, groupers and lots more. The deepest site there was the wreck dive at a depth of 25 m. All the other sites had an average depth of 14 m to 17 m.
