NYK Hikawamaru at Yokohama part 1|Kapal penumpang thn 1930an
Hikawa maru is a cargo-passenger liner that was built in 1930 for the Japan-Seattle line by NYK line.
Around the 1920s, there were growing calls in Japan for building its own high-grade ships in order to compete with the large ships introduced by Europe and the United States. Hikawa maru was a state-of-the-art ship at the time it was built.During World War II, Hikawa maru was set up as a navy hospitals ship. The ship struck mines on the three separate occasions before the war ended but avoided being sunk. After the war. It was refitted as a cargo-passenger ship and resumed service on the Seattle line in 1953. Having been in service for 30 years. Hikawa maru made 254 voyages across the Pacific Ocean and carried more than 25.000 passengers in total during its lifetime. Since 1961, the ship has been kept at Yamashita park, where it has become a popular attraction visited by many people over many years. Hikawa maru was temporarily closed for refurbishing in 2006 and reopened to the public in 2008 as NYK Hikawamaru.Being the only surviving cargo-passenger liner built in Japan before World War II and having earned a high reputation as a valuable industrial heritage that preserves shipbuilding technology and inboard interior decoration, the ship was designated as a nationally important cultural property in 2016.

Hikawa Maru (氷川丸?) is a Japanese ocean liner that was built for the Nippon Yusen KK line by the Yokohama Dock Company. She was launched on 30 September 1929, and made her maiden voyage from Kobe to Seattle on 13 May 1930.[1] She is one of three sister ships, all named after important Shinto shrines, Hikawa Shrine being located in Saitama. The other two, both lost in the war, were Heian Maru and Hie Maru.
The service provided on the ship was famous for combining splendid food and beautiful art deco interiors. She was often referred to as the Queen of the Pacific. Charlie Chaplin and Kano Jigoro (founder of Judo) are amongst the ship's more notable former passengers.
In 1941, before Japan's entry to the World War II the Hikawa Maru was used by Jewish refugees escaping the Nazis via Japan. Reuben Goossens [2] reports Zorach Warhaftig's experience about the ship.[3] Zorach together with his family left from Yokohama on the Hikawa Maru on 5 June 1941 for Vancouver, Canada. He describes the trip as a summer vacation and with the war seeming to be so far away although, he said I didn't have a peaceful mind because of the strong responsibility I had to help the Jewish refugees with the troubles they faced.

China to Japan by Ferry
Took the Ferry from Shanghai, China to Osaka, Japan. The 48 hour journey started in central Shanghai across from Pudong, sailed out the Huangpu River, onto the Yangtze River and then out into the East China Sea. There is a noticeable change in the colour of the water from ochre to blue as you leave the rivers behind. Whilst sailing, I saw a smack of Jellyfish (Yes, this is the collective term) and flying fish (which are only barely visible in this video shooting across the water's surface).
The ferry later traverses the strait between the Japanese mainland islands of Honshu and Kyushu at Shimonseki around sunset before docking in Osaka the following morning.
