Life of the Kali
This film by Pradeep Hegde and Sudarshan Basrithaya trails the journey of Kali, a river in threat that seeks immediate attention. Situated in Uttar Kannada District, Karnataka, it is one of the shortest river which flows for 184km amidst the Western Ghats. It flows through the Anshi- Dandeli tiger reserve where wildlife has rejoices in pride. Many endangered species like Great Indian horn bills and purple frog are also sheltered here.
This short film tries to give the fundamental information about the river, with special emphasis on the current issues and threats like construction of dams, pollution by the paper mills and other human activities.
Most people, including the locals have very little awareness about Kali and the river is considered just as an e as it already has end to materialistic means. There are, at present 6 major dams built on the river and plans of much more technological development are on the way which has created a crucial need to create consciousness about nature and wildlife conservation amongst the masses. This film intends to provide a helping hand in the protection of the river, which is possible through the combined effort of scientific measures and bureaucratic aid.
The film would fulfil its purpose if it will be reminiscent to the local communities of the relic they have inherited and assist them in preserving it.
