Koggala is bounded on one side by a reef and on the other by a large lake, Koggala Lake, into which the numerous tributaries of the Koggala Oya drain. It is approximately 139 kilometres (86 mi) south of Colombo and is situated at an elevation of 3 metres (9.8 ft) above the sea level.
Koggala has one of the longest beaches in Sri Lanka, and is located in close proximity to the popular tourist resort of Unawatuna, Koggala in comparison is relatively uncluttered as a tourist destination and mostly unexplored.

Koggala is a little seaside town, arranged at the edge of a tidal pond on the south shoreline of Sri Lanka, situated in Galle District, Southern Province of Sri Lanka and is represented by a Urban Council. Koggala is limited on one side by a reef, and on the other by an expansive lake, Koggala Lake, into which the various tributaries of the Koggala Oya deplete.

Koggala is one of the famous tourists’ attraction places in Sri Lanka. It is located on the southern coast of Sri Lanka. Visitors can enjoy the boat trips in the lagoon and Koggala Lake to explore other tiny islands and the biodiversity around the Koggala site. Madol Duwa is one of seven islands located on the Koggala Lake. A boat ride down the lake is soothing. When you reach the town of Koggala, you will find many hand-written signs that will lead you towards ‘Madol Duwa’. Madol Duwa is located is just 30 minutes south of Galle. Once you reach the island, you will notice a well-used path that will take you around the island. It is a surprisingly small island that can be explored within a few minutes. However what is most fascinating is that this island blossomed in the imagination of Mr. Wickramasinghe.

Wednesday 20th December 2017. We saw large monitor lizards in the creek when we left and various birds. No crocodiles though or monkeys either. We visited a Budhist temple on one island and saw how cinnamon is produced on another. We also experienced fish feeling ! Thanks to Kasun, Masiie's boyfriend.
