Day 27- Lighthouse Views & A Waste of Money Tour | Koh Rong Samloem
We hiked up to the lighthouse which has the best views of the whole island. We also did a tour that involved snorkelling and fishing to get to M'Pai bay that wasn't worth our money.

Für unseren 4 tägigen Aufenthalt auf Koh Rong Samloem hatten wir uns zwei verschiedene Unterkünfte ausgesucht, jeweils am anderen Ende der langen Bucht. Der Umzug war relativ einfach, da die Resorts untereinander gut vernetzt waren und somit der Gepäcktransport von diesen organisiert worden war. Das Cita Resort hatte unsere Rucksäcke mit einem kleinen Boot direkt am Saracen Bay Resort abgeholt, so dass wir einen ganz gemütlichen Strandspaziergang ohne Gepäck machen konnten während unser Weltreisegepäck übers Meer geschippert wurde. Der Bungalow im Cita Resort war ursprünglicher und erinnerte eher an den Robinson Cruso Style. Es war richtig schön hier.
Nur wenige Gehminuten vom Cita Resort begann der Trecking-Pfad zum Leuchtturm der Insel. Da wir von einem beeindruckenden Ausblick über die Insel gehört hatten, wollten wir uns dies keinesfalls entgehen lassen. Daher starteten wir direkt nach dem Frühstück mit entsprechendem Gepäck: 1. gutes festes Schuhwerk (der Pfad sollte über steiniges Gelände gehen), 2. genügend Trinkwasser (auf dieser Inselecke gab es keine Einkaufsmöglichkeit), 3. Mückenspray (die Wege führten durch Dschungel), 4. Badeklamotten (ein abgelegener Strandabschnitt „Military Beach“ war angeblich erreichbar) … Wie sich herausstellte, sollten wir alles brauchen!

3 Things to Do In Koh Rong Samloem, Cambodia
Surely one of my favourite islands to date! Very laid back and peaceful (not many people too!). Only 3 things make it to this list because you should spend most of your time on the beach just chilling out :D
Koh Rong Samloem is the smaller of the Koh Rong islands off the coast of Sihanoukville in Cambodia. A fairly affordable beach getaway whilst in the country, surely something you should try to squeeze between the temple hopping in Siem Reap and shopping/sightseeing in Phnom Penh.

Where, in Cambodia, is Koh Rong Sanloem?
Koh Rong Sanloem is an island off the coast of Sihanoukville, Cambodia, 4 km south of Koh Rong island. It is around 9 km long, 4 km wide and 1 km wide at its narrowest point.
Its distance from the local port of Sihanoukville is 25 km and 23 km from the Serendipity/Ochheuteal beach pier.
It is a peaceful relaxing destination with breathtaking scenery – Pristine white beaches, clear turquoise ocean waters, and a tropical jungle wilderness.
A real ‘island paradise’ – As it is often called by tourists. Here’s all the information on Koh Rong Samloem’s beaches, tourism, history, geography, and villages.
Area: 24.5 km²
Population: around 300, quickly growing
Commune: Sangkat 5
Location: Cambodia - South East Asia
When is the best time to visit Koh Rong Sanloem?
Well, most people visit Koh Rong Samloem between November and May, as during these months there are beautiful hot days (25°C – 40°C) with very little cloud and low humidity.
Which parts of Koh Rong Sanloem island are the best?
There are many spectacular tourist locations on Koh Rong Samloem.
The main tourist beach is called Saracen Bay, creating a quiet lad-back atmosphere with several resorts along its front.
Experience a little bit of culture at M’Pai Bay, or isolate yourself with a Robinson Crusoe style experience at Lazy Beach and Sunset Beach.
How to get to Koh Rong Sanloem?
As of 2019, there are now 5 modern ferry services from Sihanoukville to Koh Rong Samloem.
The 5 services offer modern speed boats with comfortable chairs, life jackets, and the option to buy food and drink on board.

A visit to the beautiful island of Koh Rong Samloem off the Cambodian coast at Sihanoukville. My Lumix GH3 died at the beginning of the trip - heat or salt-water affected I guess though it is supposed to be weatherproof - so I've used lots of stills.

So we were crossing the island of Koh Rong Samloem from Lazy Beach to Saracen Bay when this man and his unfamiliar motorized jungle vehicle stopped to ask us if we wanted a ride to the other side. We thought about it for a whole half second before we hopped on and went for a bumpy yet fun ride through the jungle.
