Koh Tan - Undiscovered Paradise in Thailand
Koh Tan is located some 20 minutes long tail boat trip off Koh Samui. It is relatively undiscovered and offers much more than expected from fabulous views, snorkeling, bat caves to mangroves.
My family and I had a great time and many thanks to 'Tour Explore' for the excursion - you can look them up on Facebook.

Snorkeling @ Koh Taen (Koh Tan), Koh Samui (2013.9.23)
nice snorkeling experience, plenty colorful fishes & coral life
Before trip:
I wanted a nice snorkeling but did not want my time spent too much on a long boat ride to the popular Koh Tao or An Thong national park so I did some home work and chose to go to the near islands Koh Taen and Koh Mudsum.
Fun trip:
Both my husband and I enjoyed watching the colorful fishes swimming by during the snorkeling. The sunlight may not be the best in the year but enough to clearly see the coral life.
We also took a break at Mudsum and just relaxed at the beach, the water is shallow good for a long walk in the sea, quite interesting. Since Koh Taen (or Koh Tan) is relatively close to Koh Samui that other islands, we saved much travel time and could enjoy some afternoon after the trip. I guess Koh Taen is not that well known among tourists, the long tail boat only collected 9 adults & 2 kids in our trip, it's small group and almost feel it's a semi-private tour.
T.K. tour:
nice staff, simple but clean snorkeling goggles, good lunch (best fried barracuda!)
My husband and I booked TK tour at a small agency across hotel in Samui. we chose TK tour because it offers Koh Taen tour that is only 20 mins away from south tip of koh samui, relatively close than other popular island tours (i.e., an-thong national park or koh tao).
It was a nice snorkeling experience. the staff were nice and polite, and made sure the little kid of the other couple had the right size life vest before entering in the water. Koh Taen may not be that well known among tourists, so the long tail boat we took only collected 9 adults & 2 kids. it's like a semi-private tour, small group and still fun.
TK tour offered free water bottles, free soda, free fresh water melons & pineapples on the boat. they also gave free breads for us to feed the fishes. the snorkeling goggles and tubes provided are simple type but very clean (guess because its not in frequent use like other big tours).
My point in this trip is to enjoy the snorkeling and seeing the colorful fishes and coral life, and i feel my money well spent and i took some fish pictures in the water. we are lucky that it's a sunny day while most people say that September is generally rainy season. the sun light is enough to see those coral life but i would say if in summer time with stronger sun light, it would even be better. the lunch set (included in the fee) was good and the best fried barracuda i've ever had, really tasty.
overall, for my hubby and I, we feel this is a wonderful trip.
Unfortunately, the trip should include 5 islands sightseeing but they said it's too windy to get close to the 5 islands because there're kids in our boats. The other thing is that i wish the staff could introduce the islands in english to help our understanding of the culture stuff. (this is a small tour and only 2 staffs on service.)

Ko Samui Day Trip To Ko Tao & Nang Yuan Island Thailand | Things to do in Ko Samui & Ko Pha-ngan 4K
Ko Samui day trip to Ko Tao and Nang Yuan Island - For those travelers looking for things to do in Koh Samui. Just off the coast of Ko Samui in Thailand, check this video out. We were looking for something to do during our stay in Ko Samui and decided to look into a day trip to Ko Tao, taking the Koh Samui Ferry over to Ko Tao for some snorkeling in Ko Tao. Snorkeling in Thailand is amazing as is, but Nang Yuan Island Snorkeling was pretty amazing and ended up being a perfect little day trip for us.

***PLENTIFUL TRAVEL PRO TIP: Bring your own snorkeling gear with you so you do not have to rent a pair of used ones and can use anywhere you want.
Available on Amazon.com:
You can only get to Ko Tao by boat. Coming from Ko Samui, it's around 500 baht for a one-way ticket and about a 1 ½ to 2-hour boat ride over to Ko Tao and Nang Yuan Island. The ferry stops at Ko Pha-ngan and Koh Nang Yuan Island before arriving at the pier in Ko Tao.
*****PRODUCT RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A DAY TRIP TO KO TAO*****
-A beach towel:
-Water socks or sandals:
-GoPro camera:
-Portable lightweight Travel Backpack:
Boats leave several times throughout the day with the earliest ferry leaving Ko Samui at 8am and heading back from Ko Tao around 3:30pm so if you are making a day trip there without staying the night, you will have only around 4-5 hours at most on the Island.
Upon arrival to Ko Tao, you will see many shops, restaurants/bars, and hotels. We stopped to grab some food and then chose to rent a longtail boat to tour around Ko Tao and Nang Yuan Island. This is really a better option than doing a group tour and you can find many longtail boat drivers for 2,000-4,000 baht (depending on the length of tour and group size).

Our longtail boat left from Mae Hat Beach and headed out around Ko Tao. We first stopped at a place called Mango Bay, which was a perfect area for snorkeling. There was only 1 other person there while we were, but the Bay is plenty big so you really had the place to yourselves there at Mango Bay.
From there we headed to Koh Nang Yuan Island, which is a small island off the coast of Ko Tao. There is actually a fair amount of things to do on Koh Nang Yuan Island. We snorkeled some more, but people choose to spend the day here (the ferry over from Ko Samui actually stops at Koh Nang Yuan Island). You will also find scuba divers enjoying the clear waters surrounding the island.
If you spend the day on Koh Nang Yuan Island, you can enjoy the beach, the bar/restaurant at the resort, hike up to the Koh Nang Yuan Island viewpoint for some views of the Koh Nang Yuan Island. If you do want to enjoy Koh Nang Yuan Island, there is a $10 fee to step foot on the island and you better get there early to beat the crows of people.
Once back on Ko Tao, you will likely not have a lot of time left before the ferry heads back to Ko Samui. Also, with the last ferries leaving Ko Tao around the same time, the docks will be packed with visitors standing in line waiting to board the ferry back to Ko Samui and Ko Pha-ngan.
With the time that we had left on Ko Tao, we walked around to some shops and restaurants and enjoyed some drinks. Before departing back to Ko Samui, we stopped at a convenience store right off the pier in Ko Tao to grab some beers to enjoy on the trip back. The ferry stops again at Koh Nang Yuan to pick up passengers there, as well as Ko Pha-ngan before returning to Ko Samui.

Snorkeling and Flying at Koh Tan - Samui

Koh Samui Top 5 Things To Do
Koh Samui is Thailand’s second largest island and has an area of nearly 230 square kilometers. The easiest way to get here is to fly in, in under an hour from the capital. Or fly to Surat Thani and take a ferry in.
5. Koh Samui’s to-die-for beaches. Chaweng is the most popular beach on the island. It’s 6kms of soft white sand and along the way there is countless bars, restaurants and good shopping. If you like your beaches more private then you should head to Chaweng Cove – a sneaky spot where you can basically swim and sun alone. And a shout out to Lamai Beach for good mix of active and serene.
4. View Point Options on Samui because the island has many hills, its full of incredible places to see the view.
The view Point at Hin Ta Hin Yai is a must see. This is a very popular photo spot and its not just cause the beach is incredibly scenic. The famous rocks here look remarkably like male and female ‘organs’ shall we say. Then for a cheeky 10 baht you can climb to the very top and get a 360 degree view of the whole area and finally the Jungle Club.
3. Spa Options.
Six Senses Samui – each treatment room is set in luxury jungle huts overlooking the ocean and something you HAVE to try if you come here is the Amazing Senses 4 Hands. I swear you will be literally zinging from head to toe.
Tamarind Springs – here the feeling is about being at one with nature. The massage rooms are outdoors and all their staff studies yoga and meditation daily so their energies can be rejuvenating to the clients. Quick tip – don’t miss out on the organic breakfast and post massage juices! But the highlight HAS to be the natural pools and saunas built inside a huge rock.
2. Experiencing Local and International Dishes.
A must do for those who like seafood is the Bophut Fisherman Village. This happens every Friday, and the main streets fill up with food and cute craft vendors. This is a spot for families and there is live music too, but if street delights are your kind of thing then head here with an empty stomach and don’t miss the freshly barbequed items!
For fine dining, my personal pick is Zazen Restaurant at the resort of the same name also in Bophut. If you are in the mood for romance – come here! The restaurant is decked out in Moroccan finery, but serves Mediterranean and Thai infused cuisine.
1. Mountain Tour at Namuang Safari Park
So why is it number one? It combines family, fun, nature, adventure, animals and much more. At this one place you can sign up for Elephant trekking, 4×4 mountain exploring, Quad bikes and cable riding
