香積寺,KOJAKUJI is located in Asuke Town in the northern part of Toyota City, and is the temple of Soto Zen founded in 1427. Korankei, where is in Asuke Town, is a famous spot of autumn leaves, and in the fall every year it attracts a large number of tourists. June is a fresh green season, and one mountain is covered with various greens. Kojakuji has a formal Zazendo. If you have a will, you can experience Zazen.

Today, visitors to Korankei are able to see the fruits of such past efforts, in the form of excellent autumn scenery that is best around mid to late November each year.
Around the paths along Tomoe River at the western and southern sides of Mount Iimori tend to show the best colors. Visitors can enjoy fantastic view of maple tree tunnels and autumn colors in collaboration with views of the river and the few bridges across it. The vermillion Taigetsukyo Bridge is the symbol of Korankei and a best picture-taking spot.
During each autumn leaf season, which usually lasts through November, festival stalls are established near Tomoehashi Bridge, where nightly illuminations take place from around 17:00 to 21:00. Events such as musical performances are held at the Korankei Hiroba open space.
One attraction at Korankei independent of the autumn colors is the Sanshu Asuke Yashiki Village, where many old houses are preserved in a village-like atmosphere. Visitors can take part in one of the many workshops held in the various houses, and try their hands at making some handicrafts such as straw sandals, bamboo baskets, washi paper postcards and indigo dyed handkerchiefs.
Access information
It takes quite a while to get to Korankei and some trouble due to the lack of direct public transportation. It is required to transfer at least once at Nagoya Station, involving both trains and buses to reach Korankei. The one way trip costs about 1500 yen and takes a bit under two hours if connections are good. There are multiple ways to approach Korankei as explained by the network map below.
Note that Korankei is extremely busy during the autumn leaf season, especially on weekends. It would be a good choice to come early in the day when the congestion is not as bad yet. Later in the day it is highly possible to have to wait in long traffic jams in front of full parking lots, which affect buses as well.

香嵐渓のもみじは、香積寺11世の三栄(参栄)和尚が、江戸時代の寛永11年(1634)に植えたのがはじまりといわれています。
三栄和尚は、美しい自然を、より美しくとの願いをこめて、巴川沿いの参道から香積寺にかけて。楓、杉などを、般若心経を1巻詠むごとに、1本1本植えていきました。 その後大正から 昭和の始めに住民の手により植えたされ、現在の景観を誇っています。
香嵐渓といえば何といっても秋の紅葉です。11月には、絢爛豪華な香嵐渓にころもがえをします。四千本のもみじが黄や紅に染まる様は圧巻です。
見頃は11月中旬から下旬。年によって多少前後します。
