Awaawapuhi - Ultimate view of Napali on Kauai
The Awaawapuhi Trail will take you on an ultimate journey as you ascend from 4,120 feet elevation in the Kokee State Park to the valley rim of Nualolo and Awa’awapuhi valleys at 2,500 feet. The trail will lead you through rain forest, high desert like terrain and to some of the most awe inspiring vistas on Kauai’s Napali Coast. Awa’awapuhi Trail is a continual downhill hike from the trail head to the grassy clearing overlooking the valleys.
The Napali Forest Reserve area is managed as wilderness because of the rich variety of native plant species that thrive here. After the first mile-and-a-half the forest begins to thin out and the rugged Napali coast comes into view as well as glimpses into the Awaawapuhi Valley. At about the three mile mark is the junction of the Nualolo Cliff Trail.

Hawaii - Driving Kauai - Up Waimea Canyon
Driving up Waimea Canyon along Hawaii Route 550 (Waimea Canyon Drive & Kokee Road). It's a long drive up the mountain with a few gorgeous lookout vantage points. Be sure to get to the top before clouds and rain set in. We arrived at the last lookout just before the rain and raced the wall of water down the mountain road stopping quickly for a few photos along the way. The photo interludes have been inserted where we took the photos (at least per our recollection).

Had to do at least one hike while in Waimea Canyon. Even though we were getting rained on at the beginning, it ended up being a really nice short hike. song is “Children of the Sun” by Hip Abduction.
Koke'e
July 1, 2011 -- Okilele plays the Hawaiian Song Koke'e at Tony's Hawaiian Restaurant in Hamby Town, Okinwawa. This song in Hawaiian -- composed by Dennis Kamakahi -- talks about the summit and views from a mountain on Kaua'i Island that is part of a national state park which is considered by some to be the Grand Canyon of the Pacific.

Kalepa Ridge Trail - The Best View of The Nā Pali Coast
Situated on the north shore in Kauai, The Nā Pali Coast is comprised of vibrant green lush mountains that rise up 4,000 feet into sharp, narrow ridges. Nā Pali, meaning high cliffs, stretches 16 miles from Ke'e Beach to Polihale State Park. Sitting along the Pacific Ocean, the picturesque Nā Pali mountains meet the aqua blue ocean making the Nā Pali Coast State Park a profoundly beautiful place to visit.
The Kalepa Ridge hiking trail is an unofficial trail that takes you on a dangerously narrow path along a ridge .75 mile into the mountains. Since the Koke'e State Park is one of the wettest spots on earth the already dangerous path becomes more death defying when it's muddy.
For more information on the Kalepa Ridge Trail including tips on how to prepare and how to navigate to the hiking path check out my blog post:

Visiting Waimea Canyon State Park, State Park in Waimea Canyon Dr, Waimea, HI 96796, United States
Waimea Canyon, also known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, is a large canyon, approximately ten miles (16 km) long and up to 3,000 feet (900 m) deep, located on the western side of Kauaʻi in the Hawaiian Islands of the United States. Waimea is Hawaiian for reddish water, a reference to the erosion of the canyon's red soil.[1] The canyon was formed by a deep incision of the Waimea River arising from the extreme rainfall on the island's central peak, Mount Waiʻaleʻale, among the wettest places on earth.
