Kokoda Trail Memorial- 1000 Steps Dandenong Ranges Melbourne Australia
My experience taking the hike up the Kokoda Memorial Trail- 1,000 steps- in Upper Ferntree Gully, Dandenong Ranges, Melbourne, Australia. It is in memory of the journey Australian soldiers took on the Kokoda Trail in Papua New Guinea during World War II with plaques along the way up the 1,000 steps depicting their journey. It is a great tourist attraction for those thinking of holidaying in Melbourne- I highly recommend you give the trail a go. For locals it's become part of their fitness routine.

The 1000 steps is an excellent workout, with spectacular views and a challenging track. Well worth the hike!
1000 Steps/Kokoda Memorial Track, Melbourne
In the Dandenongs ranges east of Melbourne, the track was created to commemorate the Kokoda Track, an overland trail in New Guinea in 1942 Australian 'diggers' crossed in order to depend us from the Japanese. This track is a little more...manageable, but still a good workout, with some nice views of the forest and the valley. It's easy accessible from Upper Ferntree Gully station on the Belgrave Line.
