Road Biking Kolob Terrace Road Zions Nation Park
Megan out on the Kolob Terrace Road. I didn't dare fly the copter in the park sections, so the footage is limited to the middle sections and a little lower section. Not many people get out on their road bikes on this road, and traffic is fairly low. Not a large shoulder, but the views are great. You can Ride this route from Virgin Utah the the Kolob Reservoir, a total of around 24 miles with 4,600' of elevation gain. One of the most unknown and scenic routes around.
Kolob Canyons Utah: Zion National Park's Hidden Gem
The popular main section of Zion National Park is surely a thrill, but there are other areas of the park that are often overlooked by visitors. Kolob Canyons to the north of the main park is an example, and that's too bad. Driving the park's winding red (from embedded sandstone) road, is a thrill a minute as wide vistas of shockingly red cliffs, bold green trees, and bright blue skies (at least on the day we were there) combine to create unsurpassed natural masterpieces. There are challenging hiking trails, too. Larry Richardson created this video for RichardsonArtPhotographyStore.com using an Apple iPhone 7 and iMovie.
Best of Kolob Canyon - Zion National Park, Utah
Photography by Carl Mazur shows the amazing beauty of Kolob Canyon in Zion National Park Utah. Kolob Canyon is located in the Southwest corner of Southern Utah. Kolob is accessible during all times even the winter when roads are available to enter. It is part of a large National Park system called Zion National Park.
Carl Mazur is from Cedar City, Utah, just north of Kolob Canyon about 18 miles.

Hop Valley - Zion National Park
The trail begins from the Kolob Terrace Road and wanders through the open fields with wide open views of the surrounding rock formations. As you near Hop Valley, the trail starts its descent. The valley floor of Hop Valley is breathtaking with its flat sandy bottom and vertical walls rising on both sides. The trail is very sandy and well worn. The campsites are at the far end of the valley before the steep descent into La Verkin Creek. This trail is best in the spring, summer and fall. The trail typically has snow in the winter that can remain until early spring. Camping is permitted in designated sites only.

THE KOLOB ARCH TRAIL.
Exit I-15 on exit 40 and go east on the Kolob Canyon Road, after the visitor center drive for 3.7 miles to the Lee Pass Trailhead. Park and jump on the La Verkin Creek Trail. The trail is mostly downhill for the next 7 miles. When you come the sign that says Kolob Arch to the left go to the left. The hike up the small canyon that leads to Kolob Arch is the most rugged part of the trail. The path is usually well marked, but a couple scramble points are marked with cairns. Keep in mind once you get to Kolob Arch your hike is only half way done (if you are going in and out). Returning to your car is the hard part of the trail, because now it’s all basically uphill.
Kolob Arch is not a good trail to get into hiking with. It is a great trail if you’re accustomed to long trails and varying conditions (stone, sand, inclines, declines, and stream crossing). It does offer great solitude. The views are not great until you get into Hop Valley, which is about 5.5 miles in on the hike. There are some great backpacking locations as you get deeper into the backcountry of Kolob Canyon and you can even connect over to the main section of Zion National Park. Make sure you got your permits!

No Filter: Road to Kolob
In this episode of the “No Filter Show” co-hosts Paul Ford and Grady Sinclair test the old adage “life is a journey, not a destination” as they travel on the road to the Kolob Terrace section of Zion National Park and beyond to the Kolob Reservoir.
Along their journey, the boys find the jaw-dropping vistas and plethora of outdoor activities on the road to Kolob uplift their hearts and souls.
In his essay entitled “Experience,” writer Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote this of life’s journey:
To finish the moment, to find the journey’s end in every step of the road, to live the greatest number of good hours, is wisdom.
Join the “No Filter Show” crew as they discover all the delights the road to Kolob has to offer. There may even be some frolicking in a field of gold.
About the Kolob Terrace
The Kolob Terrace is located in the middle of Zion National Park land. It is sandwiched between the Kolob Canyons section of the park to the west and the main canyon of Zion National Park to the east. The Kolob Terrace Road is accessed from the town of Virgin located on state Route 9.
To get there, travelers coming from Hurricane will take a left hand turn off of SR-9 following signage marked for Kolob Reservoir and the Kolob Terrace Road. Visitors coming from the main section of Zion National Park via Springdale and Rockville will take a right hand turn off SR-9 following the same signage.
The road rises steadily, gaining almost 5,000 feet in elevation from Virgin (3,606 feet) to Kolob Reservoir (8,107 feet). Along the way travelers will see a dramatic landscape that shifts from desert sandstone and cacti to a mountain reservoir surrounded by pine and aspen trees. Temperatures can drop almost 20 degrees from Virgin to the reservoir, making a perfect summer destination.
Learn more: Kolob Canyons day; legends of Zion National Park’s most accessible section
In late September to early October, foliage along the Kolob Terrace Road goes wild with colors that practically scream for sightseers and shutterbugs to visit though temperatures near the reservoir can get quite chilly as the winter season approaches. Due to snow, the road is often closed from late fall until late spring.
The Kolob Terrace road passes through the jurisdiction of a variety of land management entities including but not limited to the National Park Service, the Bureau of Land Management and the Washington County Water Conservancy District (Kolob Reservoir).
There are a plethora of activities to do on the terrace including hiking, camping and fishing. Camping around the reservoir is free but is primitive with no running water. Enclosed vault toilets are available sporadically on the road around the reservoir. Campers should be mindful of fire safety and sanitation, bring their own water and watch for private property areas where camping is not allowed.
Additional camping is available at the Lava Point Campground near the West Rim Trailhead. This is primitive camping with pit toilets and trash cans but not water. There is no charge to camp at Lava Point Campground and all sites are on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Some of Zion National Park’s most iconic trails such as The Subway and The West Rim Trail are accessed from the Kolob Terrace. Travelers should keep in mind that some trails require special permits from the National Park Service in order to hike on them.

The Unknown Areas of Utah's Zion National Park
There are many places in Zion National Park not often visited by people, that are easy to get to, amazing to see, but not widely known or promoted by the Parks Department.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
While we were visiting Ozark Miniatures in Cedar City Utah picking up our new 1;20.3 scale coaling tower, we stopped at Zion National Park, looking for the places most people never go! AND as we have a Senior Lifetime National Pass, we wondered in and found amazing places, many of which we had totally to ourselves.

From the Web:
Zion National Park is a southwest Utah nature preserve distinguished by Zion Canyon’s steep red cliffs. Zion Canyon Scenic Drive cuts through its main section, leading to forest trails along the Virgin River. The river flows to the Emerald Pools, which have waterfalls and a hanging garden. Also along the river, partly through deep chasms, is Zion Narrows wading hike.
