Osaka Castle Museum,Osaka, Japan
Osaka Castle is a popular tourist spot and a striking historical landmark in the middle of a modern urban cityscape of high-rise concrete blocks. The castle stands in an expansive lawn covered park and consists of a complex network of moats, turrets, and walls surrounding a massive central tower. Thirteen of the structures around the main tower are designated as Important Cultural Assets by the national government. The main central tower is 55 meters high and houses a museum and a viewing platform from which visitors can enjoy fantastic panoramic views of Osaka city.
Osaka Castle was first built between 1583 and 1585 by the warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi who ruled over Japan at that time. During Hideysohi’s lifetime the castle was constantly enlarged and improved and the town of Osaka grew with it becoming an important center of trade and politics. Much of the castle was destroyed in the wars of the early 17th century, rebuilt again in 1620, and then lost again to a fire caused by a lightning strike in 1665.
The current castle tower that we see today is a reconstruction completed in 1931. This building survived the bombing raids of World War 2, but did suffer some damage, and was again badly damaged by a typhoon in 1950. Happily the castle was completely renovated in 1997, with fresh white plaster on the walls, new tiles on the roof, restored ornaments, and gold leaf decoration. Today it stands in the midst of modern Osaka as a stunningly beautiful symbol of the city’s pride in its past.

Traveling to Japan | Walking around Nagoya City
Nagoya (名古屋) is the largest city in the Chūbu region of Japan. It is Japan's third-largest incorporated city and the fourth most populous urban area. It is located on the Pacific coast on central Honshu. It is the capital of Aichi Prefecture and is one of Japan's major ports along with those of Tokyo, Osaka, Kobe, Yokohama, Chiba, and Kitakyushu. It is also the center of Japan's third-largest metropolitan region, known as the Chūkyō Metropolitan Area. As of 2015, 2.28 million people lived in the city, part of Chūkyō Metropolitan Area's 9.10 million people.
Nagoya is served by Chūbu Centrair International Airport (NGO), built on an artificial island in Tokoname. The airport has international flights and a high volume of domestic flights.
A second airport is Nagoya Airfield (Komaki Airport, NKM) near the city's boundary with Komaki and Kasugai. On February 17, 2005 Nagoya Airport's commercial international flights moved to Centrair Airport. Nagoya Airfield is now used for general aviation and as an airbase and is the main Fuji Dream Airlines hub.
Nagoya Station, the world's largest train station by floor area, is on the Tōkaidō Shinkansen line, the Tōkaidō Main Line, and the Chūō Main Line, among others. JR Central, which operates the Tōkaidō Shinkansen, has its headquarter there. Meitetsu is also based in Nagoya, and along with Kintetsu provides regional rail service to the Tōkai and Kansai regions. Nagoya Subway provides urban transit service.
Nagoya Port is the largest port by international trade value in Japan. Toyota Motor Corporation exports via this port.
Nagoya's two most famous sightseeing spots are Atsuta Shrine and Nagoya Castle.[35]
Atsuta Shrine is the second-most venerable shrine in Japan, after Ise Grand Shrine. It is said to hold the Kusanagi sword, one of the three imperial regalia of Japan, but it is not on public display. It holds around 70 festivals per year. The shrine hosts over 4,400 national treasures that span its 2,000 year history.
Nagoya Castle was built in 1612. Although a large part of it burned down during World War II, the castle was restored in 1959, adding amenities such as elevators. The castle is famous for two magnificent Golden tiger-headed carp (金の鯱 Kin no Shachihoko) on the roof, often used as the symbol of Nagoya.
Other attractions include:
Nagoya TV Tower and Hisaya-Ōdori Park, located in the central Sakae district
JR Central Towers of Nagoya Station
Midland Square: The new international sales headquarters for Toyota features Japan's highest open-air observation deck.[36]
The Nagoya Port area: The Nagoya port area includes a themed shopping mall called Italia Mura as well as the popular Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium.
Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens and the Higashiyama Sky Tower
The Toyota museums: The Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology near Nagoya station
Danpusan Kofun : The maximum old burial mound(Kofun) in Aichi.
The Noritake factory: The home of Noritake fine chinaware is open to visitors and allows people to learn about the history of the establishment. It includes a cafe, information/technology displays, and shopping facilities, so visitors can spend a whole day wandering through the displays and grounds. It also holds a few unrestored areas that serve as reminders of devastation caused by the final stages of World War II.

Bizarre Japan: Kanamara P*nis Festival 2018!
Participants carry a portable shrine with a huge phallus during the Kanamara Matsuri on April 1, 2018, Kawasaki, Japan. The Kanamara Matsuri or the festival of the Steel Phallus is held on the first Sunday in April at the Kanayama shrine. The Shrine was popular with prostitutes who wished to pray for protection from sexually transmitted diseases, and is also frequented by couples praying for easy birth or married-couple harmony. The festival was started in 1969 and is now a popular tourist event. Local store holders sell phallus shaped trinkets and food and the festival also raises money for HIV research. Japan Travel: Taga Shrine believed to grant fertility Uwajima, Ehime, Japan
Taga Shrine (多賀神社, Taga Jinja) is located north of Uwajima's city center. People pray at the shrine for longevity, good health and in particular, fertility. The shrine's claims to popularity among foreign tourists are its fertility related objects of worship, including about two meter long wooden phallus displayed alongside the main shrine building. Such explicit fertility objects were more common at shrines across Japan in the past until puritanical values from the West led to their removal around the Meiji Period (1868-1912).
There is a museum next to the shrine hall. It displays the priest's collection of international and domestic pornographic materials. Items on exhibit include adult oriented illustrations, ukiyoe and objects from various regions of the world and eras of history. Minors under the age of 20 are not allowed entry.

Daniel Urban Kiley Lecture: Toru Mitani
Is there any essential difference between the detail design of landscape architecture and of architecture? It is very common to discuss detail design in the architectural realm, as evidenced by a number of research works and publications focusing on the rationality and logics of the wooden structure of traditional Japanese architecture that praise its beauty. On the other hand, it is not so easy to find any discussion of detail designs of the traditional gardens in Japan, because most focus on the semantics and symbolization of their style. For example, the stone formation in the dry garden has been explained from the viewpoint of Buddhist symbolization or sometimes of the spiritual representation, and not from the viewpoint of its functional, structural reason, in other words, as a matter of engineering.
Japan-based landscape architect Toru Mitani discusses these and other considerations with reference to the concurrent GSD exhibition featuring his ongoing work and collaborative projects with his firm ‘studio on site.’

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

Ilyushin Il-62
The Ilyushin Il-62 (NATO reporting name Classic) is a Soviet long-range narrow-body jet airliner conceived in 1960 by Ilyushin. As successor to the popular turbo-prop Il-18 and with capacity for almost 200 passengers and crew, the Il-62 was the world's largest jet airliner when first flown in 1963. Being one of four pioneering long-range designs (the others being Boeing 707, DC-8, and VC10), it was the first such type to be operated by the Soviet Union and a number of allied nations. The Il-62 entered Aeroflot civilian service on 15 September 1967 with an inaugural passenger flight from Moscow to Montreal, and remained the standard long-range airliner for the Soviet Union (and later, Russia) for several decades. It was the first Russian pressurised aircraft with non-circular cross-section fuselage and ergonomic passenger doors, and the first Russian jet with six-abreast seating (the turbo-prop Tu-114 shared this arrangement) and international-standard navigation lights.
Over 30 nations operated the Il-62 with over 80 being exported and others leased by Russian-sphere and a few Western airlines. The Il-62M variant became the longest-serving model in its class with some examples having been in use for over three decades. Special VIP (salon) and other conversions were also developed and used as head-of-state transport by some 14 countries. Expensive to operate compared to new generation airliners, the number in service was greatly reduced after the 2008 recession. The Il-62's successors include the wide-bodied Il-86 and Il-96, both of which were made in smaller numbers and neither of which was widely exported.
